I took my wedding set (engagement ring soldered with diamond band) to see if they could fix the prong on my central diamond. No problem $50. I got it back in a timely manner but noticed it was still catching on things. I took it back and they saw the cause. "No problem. Sorry about that. Those types of prongs are hard to get right. We will take care of it." Perfect! Stand by your work. I totally understand when things don't go perfect. They were really nice each encounter. I would have given a 5 star rating at that time. They left a message that it would take a bit longer because they "had to order a part."
Picked it up the second time. Looked beautiful. Didn't catch on anything. Got it home. That evening, I felt like I had a splinter in my finger. Found that one of the diamonds in my BAND was sticking through the bottom of the ring. Took it back. The person told me there was nothing they could do about it because my band was so thin and the person who made it didn't leave room for improvement. "But that wasn't, at all, what I brought it in for." Calls the guy (owner?) who fixed it. "Apparently, three of the diamonds in the band fell out during cleaning and one couldn't be found so he ordered another diamond" which doesn't fit in there. I was given the option of them trying to build up the gold so the diamond wouldn't cut my finger or I can have the band remade for $600-700. By the way, all the diamonds in the ring were from my grandma's wedding set! So I let them try to build it up.
Picked it up for the third time. They gave me my "missing" diamond in a bag. The gold around the replaced diamond looked poorly put together but I figured no one but me would notice, but maybe I could at least wear it. The diamond was still slightly scraping my finger but not cutting it now.
Less than two hours after I got home, the diamond NEXT to the new diamond popped out and I lost it.
So... I won't be going back. Maybe they would offer to fix it again, but I just don't trust them.
I feel like it was not ethical to replace a [family] diamond and not tell me and, very clearly, they didn't really know what they were doing.
By the way, I have been wearing the set for 9 years and I have never had any diamond even loosen up. The band was made the way it was because it was made FOR the diamonds that I presented at the time.
I really wanted to like them and have a new...
Read moreI was looking for an engagement ring for my fiance and the first place I went to was La Placa. They have many diamonds and settings to pick from as well as custom rings. I decided to shop around and see what else was out there.....but after a few trips to different stores, I came back to La Place. Reason, Justin and Vinny are absolutely fantastic! The customer service and selection are top notch. Not knowing much about diamonds and settings, it is easy to get sold on what the big name stores try to sell you. However, at La Placa, they are honest and extremely informative about gem quality and settings. Buying a ring from them was painless and I got a better quality stone and a better quality setting than from a big name store. Since then, I have gone to La Placa for all of my jewelery needs. I have told all of my family and friends who are looking to get jewelery about La Placa and they all have told me what a great place it is and how nice it is to deal with honest and knowledgeable...
Read moreThis place was great!!! I unfortunately thought they were closed and called a jewelry store two doors down fix a necklace that had broken. this other shop used a link twice the size that was in my necklace it looked horrible and it wasn’t even closed completely he told me he couldn’t solder it either and he was rude and uninformed! Decided to walk a couple storefronts down to la placa! They were so nice they fixed my necklace to look like new for the same price! They also looked at and tested the other piece of jewelry I wanted checked out , gave me the correct information on it and offered to clean it for me . Do your self a favor don’t go to any other jewelry shops in Medina these guys were great!...
