I have been to Thyme on a handful of occasions. The food is slightly above average for the price point, but the service is consistently sub-par. With this being considered, my family decided to give it a try for new years eve. We joke because we normally go to Flemings, with only breaking this trend a few times with Ken Stewarts and Hyde Park. Dinner service was a limited menu, which is pretty standard for a busy new years eve rush and we understood this when making reservations. My family thought that a limited menu would help increase efficiency. However, that could not have been farther from the truth. Drinks took an average of 15-20 minutes. Food took an absorbent amount of time. After over 1 hr and 30 minutes we checked with our server with respect to the status of our dinner. She said "it would be out soon" however, after going to the restroom and passing the kitchen, one could see that the kitchen (open concept) was not even plating dinners. We requested to leave. The server printed off our full check which included dinner and dessert which we did not eat (over $330 for 4 people). When I requested that the check be adjusted to only account for the food that we ate, she seemed confused that I would request such a thing and informed me that she would have to get her manager. I was informed that they will only comp 30% of my bill. Although I was extremely frustrated at this point, I questioned this without raising my voice and commented that such doesn't reflect that we only ate 2 out of the 4 courses, so one would think at least we would be receiving a 50% comp (keep in mind we did not eat dinner which is typically the largest course). My question was shrugged off with a passive aggressive response of "it is your choice to leave" by management.
Just for a comparison, we are regular diners at Flemings. One evening our meals took 45 minutes to arrive. We did not question anything but management approached us, explained the problem, and (although we protested) comp'd our entire bill, which included appetizers, dinner, drinks and dessert. I am still of the opinion that Flemings did not need to do this, but it is evident that they care about customer satisfaction. Thyme2 could really benefit by taking a lesson from Flemings.
My takeaway, is that if I am dining in the medina/fairlawn area, there are too other GREAT restaurants, and no need to waste my...
Read moreWe have dined at Thyme 2 many, many times over the years, mostly in the fine dining. Weâve always had an excellent experience. The staff and manager (Scott) were always stellar and the food superb. Itâs been a few years since we were here last, as we have been expanding our culinary pallets. We were excited to visit Thyme again so we made reservations for fine dining this past weekend. When we arrived one of the multiple hostess lead us to the dining area and to a table of people we were not associated with. When we explained we were not with that party, she sat us at another table and said âsorry, itâs been a dayâ. The booth was very uncomfortable as the table was so close to us, we couldnât even take off our jackets. There was a massive amount of staff that all seemed discombobulated and wandered around aimlessly. When our waiter arrived he was polite but did not seem comfortable in his role. He didnât tell us about the specials until after we ordered our drinks and appetizers. We ordered a bottle of wine, orange blossom martini, the chipotle cream steamed mussels and the shrimp and grits. The martini tasted like a margarita. The mussels were tender but the cream was cold, thick and didnât possess the smoky slight chipotle flavor they usually do. The shrimp and grits were overbearing with spice. Our main dishes were just as big of a disappointment. The carrots that came with the chicken were undercooked and crunchy. The shrimp In the shrimp scampi tasted like chicken and the angel hair pasta was dry and flavorless. The seafood diablo was overly spicy not to mention the seafood was soggy. We saw no manager and our waiter was nervously walking around while the massively large number of additional staff roamed looking for something to do as the fine dining area was not full like it had been in the past. My biggest disappointment came when Chef arrived to the dining room to chat with a table of guests he knew. It was a little after 6pm, the heart of dinner service so why wouldnât he be at the pass making sure his dishes were coming out to perfection. It saddens me to say that this once fine dining gem is now so poorly executed. The food is extremely subpar, the decor is tired and as out of style as the dishes. It seems that Chef has just given up. We will not be returning. With...
Read moreI've only ever been to the pub portion and feel as if this review will need to be revisited at another time.
From what I can tell, the biggest difference between the fancy dining upstairs and the pub downstairs is mostly the menu. Downstairs you have access to burgers and pizzas that are all decent, but not much better than what you'd expect to find in most bars. The quality is certainly better, but it's not difficult to find a good burger or slice and they didn't do anything so amazing that I'd need to go back just got this things.
Overall, I'm not upset about anything and will probably return to experience Thyme 2 again, but the real reason that I gave them 3 stars was our waiter. It seemed he couldn't be bothered to come to our table.
Thyme 2 was not busy and at the time half the tables were empty. We were seated but not given menus. The waiter brought them 10 minutes later and water was poured for us, but no offer to take drink orders was made.
Another 10 minutes pass and the waiter returned and asked if we'd like drinks. He also suggested he could take food orders at the same time. That was fine with everyone at the table, but eat followed wasn't.
We had 2 more refills of water, but no beer or wine ever came. That is, not until the food arrived 20 minutes after the order was placed. We intended on having a few drinks, and we had to wave other folks down to get them. The only time we saw our waiter again between the food arriving and the check was moments after we got everything, and he wanted to know if we wanted anything else. Considering we had only JUST received our orders, of course we didn't.
When he came to mention the check, we had to suggest dessert. Well, one person at the table anyway. We mostly agreed that we were going to leave and head elsewhere by that time, but one guy just had to have cheesecake.
Again, the food was fine. I just thought we could get better service. It didn't feel like the kind of place any of us wanted to get drunk, but it still would have been nice to relax and have a few drinks without having to constantly flag down people that were waiting...
