7/29/2022 Made online appointment to replace IPhone 7 battery. I bought a 12 but want the 7 for music, etc. I searched on web the question about the tech needing the phone passcode. In one stream alone 2 geek squad techs answered yes and no. Apple answered yes. The reason they claim is to run diagnostics, and I’m guessing it’s so a customer can’t claim new damage occurred while in the hands of the tech. Anyway, it’s an IPhone 7, really old so my position is you use it in front of me and see it works and the screen is not broken, passcode lock it again and just replace the battery. They insisted Apple requires them to run diagnostics. Seriously? It’s a 7, a phone that Apple has no responsibility for. So I walked out and over to Ifixit, paid an extra $20, no passcode, no diagnostics and done in 17 minutes.
Years before was my only other interaction with the Geek Squad.
I bought a new high-end desktop that powered up but never booted correctly. Within 2 hours of purchase I brought it back for exchange. Not return/refund. The Geek Squad has to test the computer to ensure it’s broken to get an exchange. Because if it works properly and you want to return it they’ll charge you a 15% restocking fee. I’m not returning it I’m exchanging it for a working computer. I GUESS THE SERVICE MANAGER COULDN’T UNDERSTAND THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A RETURN FOR MONEY BACK & AN EXACT EXCHANGE for a working machine for which I already paid $1,100. Anyway, the young service manager refused to replace it until the tech could boot it up and run diagnostics. She could not grasp the fact that the computer would never boot up to be able to run diagnostics because it was not capable of booting up, hence the want to exchange for a working computer. The tech told her the computer isn’t booting up more than once, it doesn’t work. She insisted on charging me a 15% restocking fee for a machine that doesn’t work so obviously can not be restocked. The tech even tried to get her to understand but no luck. I filed a complaint with BestBuy and they refunded the restocking fee. I can’t blame the tech, it was the fault of a slow-on-the-uptake...
Read more1 1/2 year old Samsung 55" QLED TV goes black screen in the living room. Called Geek Squad to honor my extended warranty. Nice woman said they are very busy but set appointment two weeks out (June 12 2021). Also said they will mail parts ahead of time, don't open or install anything, no problem. Parts came in. Saturday June 12 appt. 7am to 1pm. Sat home all day, no show no call. I cancelled dinner plans with family in case the tech was running late. Website displayed the correct appt info and showed (progress bar) the tech was 'in route'. No show. Moved TV from bedroom to living room, injured my knee in the process. Meniscus tear I think. Next day called Geek Squad, Jessie said he could see appt. was for yesterday but there was no tech assigned, everything went dead in the water, somebody dropped the ball somewhere. Got passed around to their 3rd party tech provider, they showed nothing in their system. Got sent back to Geek Sq. Mary said all she can do is reschedule, got to wait now until June 22. There goes Father's Day here. We'll see if they show up.
Shaking my head, what is so difficult about scheduling a repairman to respond in a reasonable time, to repair you extended warranty TV that you paid extra for? Don't answer that, it's been my usual experience for a lifetime. Just move on to the next best TV and a newer extended warranty service company that hasn't lost their desire to provide an awesome service. Samsung QLED 60 R....
Read moreExtremely disappointed. Took my old iMac to this geek squad to save all my pictures out of it and find out what’s failing with the computer. They sold me on the data retrieval service for $100. They did not clarify if there would be any additional fees. I assumed the service included everything needed for data retrieval. Then called me later to say it would be an additional $70 to purchase their external hard drive to store all the data. I denied and brought in my own external drive. Once all the data had been transferred, i went to pick up the computer and they had no answers for me as to what was failing because they did not do a diagnostic test, and explained that’d be an additional $100. This was not explained to me when I left my device there. I took it home and lo and behold NONE of my pictures had been saved. I will have to go back there Monday in person because they do not answer their phones there. Don’t...
