For my first time ever shopping with IKEA, this is a complete disappointment. I was warned not to shop at ikea because customer service was terrible if you need to call them. Unfortunately, their reputation and name was enough to persuade me to shop there. My family traveled FOUR HOURS to shop in the store and was told by several employees that ordering items in store and having them shipped was not a big deal and super simple. What a complete and utter disappointment and headache this has been. We shopped for 3+ hours in store and found several items we needed to order and have shipped to our home. We found an In-store employee to help And he was friendly and helpful throughout the whole process. We were confident that the naysayers were wrong and that our experience would be different. We received all of our confirmation emails that the items were being shipped and would Arrive on time. Unfortunately, the day before our delivery was scheduled, we received another email stating that our delivery had failed and was unsuccessful! Thus sending us on a ridiculous and unnecessary journey to say the least. After calling the IKEA helpline, we could not get through to anyone and opted to chat with someone over the Internet. There was basically no help except to say they are sorry and that the items will ship when they’re ready. They have no ship date and no way of telling us when we will receive our items! Who would place an order for something, they have no knowledge of when they will receive?! I was told to wait for an email for when they shipped. I asked if they were back ordered and was told no they are not backordered. That is a mystery as to why we have not received our items yet! I guess I’ll never know when to expect that email right along with not knowing when to Expect my order! Unfortunately, we should’ve listened to everyone who warned us not to order through IKEA or shop there! What a waste of eight hours of drive time and 3 to 4 hours of my life gone shopping in the store! Customer service through a chat bot is not my idea of adequate or professional Customer service support! Heed my advice and shop anywhere, but IKEA! I should’ve known something was going to go awry when leaving the store I felt Anxious And overwhelmed from the massive amount of items they have in store to shop! If you want to be overwhelmed and Stressed after a 3 to 4 hour shopping experience then by all Means shop at IKEA! Their meatballs for some reason also have a strange reputation for being amazing or delicious, but I completely disagree! First of all They only give you four! 3 to 4 dollars for these stupid meatballs they sell a little freezer in store that you can purchase as well. They’re not even tasty and they’re charging an arm and a leg for these tiny little meatballs. What a complete waste of time and money! The only cups they have in their food court are glass looking wine cups that are not user-friendly for children either. I was stressed the entire time my kids were drinking from them because they’re glass! They’re buffet not really a buffet but a line you walk-through purchasing everything you put on your plate which can get extremely expensive! I would’ve been happier, going anywhere else to eat and spending my money at this overpriced underwhelming food court! My husband was disappointed that the fact that they only have one soda. And it’s called Cola. There is no other sodas there to choose from. The whole experience was extremely weird and unexpected. Overall, if I could give this a zero stars I would. Let me repeat myself one more time, I am highly disappointed in the...
Read moreif i could leave 0 stars i would. i want to start off by saying i love ikea and have never had a bad experience in store until i decided to place a delivery order. on january 18 i placed my order and was told the earliest day it would be delivered was wednesday january 22. i agreed but told the employee making my order that i work 8:30-5 he noted this in my file and then promised me they would deliver between 5-9pm. that day comes and i get a call at 11am saying my items were going to be delivered in 30 minutes. i tell the driver i am not home and they responded with “well i guess i’ll be taking this back to the warehouse then” and was very rude (i know this most likely isn’t ikea and falls on the delivery company). about 30-45 minutes later i get a call from ikea asking me why i refused delivery which i never did and simply stated i was not home. eventually the person who i was speaking with asked if i would like to reschedule the delivery for saturday january 25th between 5-9pm i say yes that would be great. i wake up saturday and find it a little strange i hadn’t received a shipping notification because during the previous scheduled delivery i did so i called ikea again explaining my concern and they placed me on hold while they spoke to the delivery company and i was told yes my package was still due to be delivery between 5-9pm. well that time farm comes and goes still no package. i called again late saturday night explaining that i never got my package and am put on hold while they call the delivery company again and this time they tell me there is no record of a delivery scheduled for my order. i am then asked if i would like to reschedule my delivery for sunday at any time i say yes great i am home all day. sunday i wake up with a tracking notification saying i will have my order between 12-5pm. again that’s time fran comes and goes and still not package so i called ikea again and explain the situation and i am told i will need to reschedule delivery for tuesday january 28th at first i go along with this because i really had my heart set on what was in my purchase. but before hanging up i let the person i’ve been speaking with that i would like to cancel the delivery and start a refund. they take down all the information give me a case number and promise me that my money will be refunded by friday january 31 and i would get an email with this information in 24-48 hours. 48 hours go by and it is now january 28th and i never got an email with the refund information so i call ikea yet again where they tell me yes we have the items you returned it will be refunded by the 31st however we can’t send you emailed proof of that. i then call ikea january 30th because i still haven’t seen any refund and i am told that before they can process my refund i have to return in store the items i purchased and it should take 2-4 business days for a refund to be processed. i tell the person i’m speaking with that i never received the items so i can’t return them. she notes this down in my file and placed me on hold while she calls the store i placed my order in and when she comes back tells me she can’t reach the store to get an update on my return because “they are too busy” and then tells me i will most likely need to go in person to the store because they can’t do anything about refunds over the phone. i am at a loss for words with how awful my experience has been. i plan to report this to the better business bureau, write a letter to the company headquarters in the us and eu, and finally take it to small claims court if possible. do better ikea this...
Read moreIKEA is a great store. It has functional furnishings and housewares in a variety of price ranges. Some of the prices are amazingly low. Granted, you have to put the furniture together yourself, but it's usually not too difficult and if you can afford it, you can always hire someone to do it. Some of the lower end pieces aren't super durable, but if you get a bed frame for $200 and it lasts you 5-10 years, that's not a bad deal.
(Edit: 5 years after writing this review - we recently decided to replace an IKEA bed in our home. It was one of the cheaper models and was still quite usable, but didn't fit the person's needs anymore. Because the room has a weird entrance, we couldn't just carry the frame out, but had to deconstruct it first. This thing was so over-engineered that we ended up using a Halligan - a firefighter's pry bar/pickaxe - to take it apart. This furniture is solid!!)
It helps if you like Swedish modern style, of course. I used to hate it, so never visited IKEA until a few years ago. I've come to appreciate the clean lines and simplicity of IKEA's products and you can get a variety of looks by choosing different colors and styles.
Visiting the store is a bit of project and/or an adventure. The food in the cafeteria is surprisingly good and the prices are crazy low. If you pay attention and plan your trip, you can sometimes even get the price of your meal deducted from your purchase.
I particularly enjoy seeing the living spaces set up within the store.
The sheer amount of stuff to see is a bit overwhelming, especially since the store is set up to run you on a sort of rat-maze through every department. Once you've been there a few times, you can figure out how to cut through to where you want to go, but there's a definite sense that you'll never actually get out. The lack of windows only adds to the claustrophobia. If you're at all sensitive to crowds or being closed in, plan your trip accordingly to avoid exhaustion.
There aren't a ton of people working the floor at IKEA, but they are universally friendly and helpful. I've never had a negative interaction with an IKEA employee.
Overall, IKEA is pretty ethical as corporations go, so that combined with the products and price makes it...
