The Midland, MI, Meijer is a good size for this town of 45,000. They offer lots of fresh veggies and fruit and plenty of speciality items. I thought they’d be in trouble with the introduction of Costco, but they seem plenty busy. I have a Costco membership but still depend on Meijer to be my go to for most fresh foods and veggies, frozen meals, frozen pizza, most dairy products, boxed Mac n cheese, cereal, etc. Meijer’s seasonal items are great! I’ve never bought much clothes at Meijer, but I can always count on them to be open when I need them to be for last minute needs. As I live just a mile down Eastman, I pop over regularly. After twenty years shopping here, I know many of the veteran cashiers. Also, I DON’T use the automatic checkouts because I support workers over my own speed.

I've been grocery shopping here for 3 years now. In the last 3 years I've grown to really dislike this meijer and how its run. I can go into this meijer at any time of the day, any day of week and their customers fight giant crates in the middle of the isles. They are constantly out of things we need or things that are on sale. I love the customer service desk and staff. They are always quick to help and very polite. Its convenient but am looking to go elsewhere. They don't have a big enough bulk section for my large family either. And could stand to keep a lane open at night.

This Meijer is great. Huge grocery section. I just wish I could drive out around the rear of the building onto the street that home Depot is on. Produce section is always well stocked, and the store is always clean. Place can get nuts busy during the holidays.

On Tuesday afternoon I went and did some shopping as usual ,not thinking of anything other than getting things done before the day ended for me .

As I go into the checkout . I notice something different if and about my cashier .

I have come before with my boyfriend ,and she is a little kinder .

This time I was in store shopping alone.

My total was about $85.00 .

So I handed $100.00 ,bill .

In which I know that the cashier ,the majority of the time check them.

Be it up where they can see the string inside the actual bill . Or mark it with the brown marker .

So she proceeded to check with raising the bill to look for the string .

Only she did it more than once .

Now when I am with my boyfriend she doesn't do this ,when he pays with $100.00 ,dollar bills .

Same cashier ....

When I noticed that she did it more than twice raising uo the bill ,I suggested that she proceed and check bill with marker ,since I had just gotten it from the bank .

Yes I know that cashiers have to becareful when taking large bills . Yet why not when I am with my boyfriend?

Is it because he is a white man 👨‍🦳 or is it because I am Caucasian?

This hasn't been the 1st time i get cashiers like this female .

It's pretty sad that this company ,doesn't emphasizes, to their cashiers, and emoloyees ,that they need to leave their racism at home!

I spoke to a female employee before I exited ,and mentioned what had happened to me .

She apologized ,however at times some customers accept this treatment ,sorry I don't.

If an employee is having a bad day then have them do something else ,like stocking merchandise, or zoning.

We all have things going on in our lives and at time we forget to leave problems at home or our own personal differences behind .

I have seen this way to much at Meyers stores .

Which is pretty sad !

Fyi I have been a cashier and in upper management in retail ,and would emphasize, to my coworkers ,that we ,they have their jobs because of our customers and each 1of the customers pay our wages . Therefore smile greet and be respectful .

Sorry had to share this because racism and byass, needs to stop at all levels .

Here's another 1 ! 09/17/25 Time 14:51 Cashier : Stephanie

Sorry but I am naming your cashiers now . Stephanie was focused out other than honestly greeting us and thanking us . As was her bagger !

What the 🌎 world is happening with these employees .

Do they not understand 🤔 that their main focus should be on the customer in front of them?

Perhaps we are un important to your cashier or Bagger ! Be it even if bagger holds a title and us helping during rush hours !

So I commented smile ladies 🚺 I hope you have a good or better day !

I might just be shopping at a Mom and Pop store .

Perhaps Meijer' s ,accepts their emoloyees ,that don't smile and greet ,and thank their customers ,which is sad !

Where has or did their training go wrong ?

I want too try and understand this companies negative aptitudes towards 🤔 their customers !

Sorry but this is...

After not understanding the 30% off additional clearance and it was explained to me that it was only on the clothes and not the shoe so it was my mistake so I had to put my shoes back and then pay for it and not realize why I was at $200 without even the shoes that I needed for my kids ahead and paid for it and moved on to my groceries the total switch from 39 to 38 when I swipe my card this proceed to do at 4 times called somebody to the the front which suspended me and took me to another register did the same exact thing he told me to call my EBT card and I expressed that it's not the EBT card when there's money on there to pay for food it would pay for it which there was Meijer system so I said that's okay and I grab the stuff that I bought that was already in my car and bags left the food that was sitting on the register counter and the man proceeded to follow me outside to ask me if I left the stuff that I didn't pay for as a single mom going through cancer trying to figure out all my stuff out right now I really didn't appreciate that not whatever I am so shaking and in tears that somebody would really think that I would sit there with that much patience trying to find this stuff out and tell him that their system is not working and to get it to work to be followed out like a thief I will never be back to this meijer it sad enough out here to be...

I have a love/hate relationship with Meijer, I have for my entire life had at least one relative that worked there from entry level jobs to managing the store, so I do have a soft spot for the place. That said, ever since the big re-model a bunch of years back now where they split their isles into two and now there is the dreaded middle isle. I have felt things have gone down hill a little. The also seem to always be moving items around leaving me lost for the simplest things at times, a feeling I have heard other shoppers express as we search the isles.

Really have not been impressed with the Meijer pickup, my issues are there is a poor system for substitutions or "out of stock" items. We have multiple times not been aware until we get the order. These feels like an easy fix, allow a customer to pre-pick a substitution in the event something is missing. As its frustrating to not get a potentially crucial dinner item or a good enough substitute the day of dinner. I also feel like they WAY over bag items, our last order had 8 items...
