I recently had the unfortunate experience of dealing with Optimum, and I must say, it was nothing short of a nightmare. Not only did they provide me with a service that never worked, but they also had the audacity to charge me for it. It is with great disappointment that I write this scathing review.
From the very beginning, it was clear that Optimum's customer service was lacking in every aspect. When I signed up for their internet service, I was promised fast and reliable connectivity. However, what I got was constant dropouts and excruciatingly slow speeds. It was impossible to stream a video or even load a simple webpage without encountering endless buffering and frustrating delays.
I immediately contacted Optimum's customer support, hoping for a quick resolution to the problem. Little did I know that this would be the beginning of a never-ending cycle of incompetence. Their representatives were unhelpful, uninformed, and seemingly uninterested in resolving my issue. Each time I called, I was met with long hold times and transferred from one department to another, only to be told that they couldn't do anything to fix the problem.
As the weeks went by, my frustration grew. I had to resort to using my mobile data for essential tasks, even though I was paying a premium for Optimum's supposedly superior internet service. Despite numerous complaints and promises of technicians coming to fix the issue, nothing changed. It was clear that Optimum had no intention of fulfilling their end of the bargain.
To add insult to injury, when I received my monthly bill, I was shocked to see that Optimum had charged me the full amount for their non-functioning service. It was a slap in the face, a blatant disregard for customer satisfaction. I immediately contacted their billing department, hoping for some understanding and a refund for the service I never received. However, their response was cold and unsympathetic. They insisted that I pay the full amount and offered no resolution or compensation for their failure to provide a functional service.
My experience with Optimum has left me deeply disappointed and frustrated. Their lack of professionalism, poor customer service, and complete disregard for their customers' satisfaction is unacceptable. I would strongly advise anyone considering Optimum as their internet service provider to think twice. Save yourself the headache and find a company that values its customers and actually delivers on its promises.

Read moreThis is the shadiest company we have ever had to use. For starters I feel like there needs to be an investigation launched for signing members up for services without their consent. We never agreed to get the amplifier ($10/month) or HBO Max services ($15/month). We were told in the beginning there was nothing we could do with the amplifier since it was sent out. It remained unopened for over a year and finally a customer service member said it could be returned. What is infuriating is we never requested any of these service nor made aware of them and we felt stuck with something we never asked for. I encourage you to actually view you bill especially if you are setting it up for autopay. Although we had those charges removed before the billing cycle for August, it was not credited to our account this month and apparently we will have to wait until next month, which is absurd. In addition to that, the internet is always spotty. Lastly, they were never installed properly at our apartments. I had a technician that had to gain access to my apartment to fix my downstairs neighbors internet. I was not comfortable with this, especially when we have already had cases where people have posed as legit businesses to gain access/case apartments. The technician was annoyed I did not allow access until after I called our front office to confirm work was actually being done. My protection and safety is worth more than your 10 minute inconvenience. Supposedly he rewired it, so that it won't happen again. However, I guess we will have to wait and see. If I could give Optimum zero stars, I would. I’ve had an extremely frustrating experience trying to transfer my internet service to my new home.
I called one week in advance to schedule the transfer, and they assured me that everything was perfect—no issues with connectivity in the area. Later that week, they changed my internet plan without informing me and failed to mention on the phone that there would be a charge for the transfer. When I called on Thursday to ask why my plan had changed, instead of solving the issue, the representative completely canceled the transfer process without my consent. This forced me to call again in the afternoon to set up a new appointment.
On Friday, the technician arrived but said he couldn’t install the modem because the cables were across the street. He promised to return Sunday and send someone else on Monday to complete the job. But nobody showed up on Monday. When I called again, they rescheduled for the next day. However, the same technician later called and said he had already installed the modem on Sunday and claimed there was nothing else he could do.
At this point, I had to call yet again to ask when I would finally get internet service. The response? More confusion. It’s clear that nobody at Optimum knows what they’re doing, and their customer service is completely incompetent.
