Iām not sure why it took me this long to check out the new Aldi, but I finally made it! Unlike a lot of people here who were new to Aldi, Iād been to several Aldi stores in the Tuscaloosa/Birmingham area, so I knew what to expect. This one is hands down the nicest Iāve ever been to, and thatās really saying something because the first one they built in Tuscaloosa was amazing. This is definitely the largest Aldi Iāve ever been to also. The aisles feel very spacious but are well-stocked. The store is very clean. Prices on everything have gone up, so no, itās not as cheap as it used to be, but youāll still do better here than any other grocery store on many items. They also have the āaisle of shameā as itās known online with special buys youāll never see again as well, and here is where I got my quarter holder keychain for $1.49. And if you drink, try the Winking Owl wine! Itās the best under $4 wine youāll ever drink. They even tell you on the bottle what it pairs with. Booneās Farm never did that for me!
The cashier was friendly but efficient. Fastest checker in the West. I was getting tired just watching her. I didnāt really interact with other employees, but you can tell theyāre doing their jobs based on how the store is kept.
To address the ānegativesāā¦YES, you have to pay a deposit for your buggy. Itās a quarter, and you get it back when you return the buggy. It helps cut down on costs to hire buggy pushers and also keeps the parking lot clean. Itās only a quarter and they donāt even keep the quarter lol. You can choose to pay it forward and leave your quarter or pass your buggy to another customer if you want, but you donāt have to.
You have to bring or buy bags. Just like at Samās or Costco. Honestly I usually just throw everything in a plastic tote or a cooler for cold food rather than bring bags, but itās not a huge deal, and the bags they sell are reusable and not that expensive.
Almost everything is off brand. Thatās why itās cheap. I can count on one hand how many Aldi brands I didnāt care for (their boxed Mac and cheese, and their pita chips. Even the pita chips werenāt bad, just not as good as Stacyās). Everything else has been high quality.
There are homeless people in this area. They have always been there. If someone is harassing you for money, which they shouldnāt be, thatās not an Aldi problem. Itās a societal problem and one thatās sadly becoming common. I canāt think of many places around Mobile that donāt ever have homeless people outside. So keep that in mind if youāre visiting the area, but if you live here, you already know what to expect. Most of our homeless are not dangerous or nuisances. Theyāre just trying to survive. Their mere presence shouldnāt...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreALDI USA on Airport Boulevard in Mobile, Alabama, the the young lady cashier whose name was Asia decided that she wanted to take out her frustrations on me after she had an older couple who asked for the manager for a discount. Well, when it was my turn to check out, I grabbed my boxes and went to throw them in the cart as she scanned the box could catch the items. If you get my drift, she snatches the box out of my hand and states I not about to bag your items for you! So when I reply back and told her she didnāt have that attitude with the people in front of her and that she can calm down she responded saying Iām not worried about you. Iām trying to get my line down as sheās slinging my items into the cart. Mind you, my 6 year old is right there for it all. I asked her to grab the manager and she refused. She slung my cart to the side and kept ignoring my request for a manager. Asia girl I donāt know who you are, or what you're truly going through⦠but Iām going to pray for you and if you know Asia, please pray for her spirit and pray for mine as well because the devil really almost had his way today. I did speak with the manager. I had to go find him in the store and he apologized for her behavior and also stated that heās not familiar with her because heās a fill-in manager and he runs the store in Ocean Springs. Honestly, the only thing I really wanted was a little bit of respect⦠I get it, You have a job to do but at the end of the day youāre not gonna be slinging the items that Iām paying $76 for at into my cart and treat me like Iām nobody. even if I was wrong for putting the box in the cart and thatās not the way you do things. There was a better way to handle it and snatching the box out of my hand and having the attitude that she had . if you donāt like your job find somewhere...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI love Aldiās, but the last 2 trips Iāve come by Iāve noticed the cashiers are quite unfriendly. My last visit it was an older brunette woman who didnāt acknowledge my existence (but she did ring up my groceries, which I appreciated!) and my most recent visit I was serviced by Sylvia (according to the receipt, she was an older blonde woman with a smokers cough) who coughed right on my cereal boxš„² (but fr Iām sure that cereal box has weathered many other storms before arriving to this grocery store), but what was noteworthy was while I was packing up my food items (from the cart they keep next to the cashier) she pushed the cart like actually into my abdomen (she was getting up from the chair and leaving the register to go on break). Iām sure she didnāt intend to do that, but she I would be surprised to learn that she didnāt see or feel the impact? Aldiā¦pls, plsssss consider making a self-checkout.
Regardless, I will continue coming to this Aldi until my tax bracket improves or I die, whichever...
