As a consumer, I have a choice of where to shop. “Shop local” sounds good and, in principle, I agree with the concept, but honestly, some local business owners have a chip on their shoulder, can act like total butt holes, and are terrible when it comes to customer service. Not all, but some. There are some industries on the Palouse where, unfortunately, you just will get a better product, and better customer service, on something like Amazon. Sad, but true! That said, this does not hold true for one appliance store here. My experience having to buy a new dryer was so much better at Deranleau’s. Then it would have been at Home Depot or Lowe’s or a chain like that.
It’s not the first time that I have purchased something here, as we bought our last refrigerator at Deranleau’s. But this, especially, was a really Good experience. I simply had a question about two different dryer models. I used the text request on the website, and got a quick text. Because my question was a little more complex, the individual called me on the phone, and then we had a great conversation, in detail, about different dryers, reliability, performance, etc. The individual knew what they were talking about and mentioned that he had been with this company for more than 30 years. He did not try to sell me on the most expensive product, but gave me a recommendation on something that would work really well for us, that he also believes in. I did not even know until I picked up the dryer later, from one of the employees there, that I had been talking to the owner. He never tried to use that. In anyway. I appreciate a person who is humble enough to not try to act greater than the customer.
I actually believe that True brand loyalty can largely be built when something doesn’t go right. How do they treat you and how do they treat the situation? The care and attention in ensuring damages were repaired and our concerns were addressed was impressive. It means a lot that a local business would take such efforts to ensure the satisfaction of a single customer. I really can’t overstate how helpful and accommodating they’ve been! So much so that we will likely look to Deranleaus for our next appliance. We were excited to buy a well-reviewed washer/dryer set from a local appliance store. My husband was pleased with the sales team, anywho helped him find and purchase what we were looking for. Our mistake came in paying $79 for delivery. Upon arrival, the team of three delivery staff were told multiple times to use the back door and back stairwell due to limited space in the front entrance and front stairwell. After refusing multiple times, they elected to go down our front Stairwell at the bottom of which they realize there was not space. Rather than turn around, they wedged the washer through the very narrow entrance into our basement, damaging our basement wall, linoleum, and brand new appliances. I think the most frustrating damage was of the washer window, which was scratched to the extent that it constantly looks dirty. They took multiple pictures of all of the damage they did, Then departed without an apology. We waited some time to hear from them, in hopes the store would make this right, and never heard a word. We gave 2 stars because the sales team was great, but no amount of salesmanship can make up for this damage. This experience, I called the Moscow store on a Saturday with the brand and model number of a washing machine I wanted to purchase over the phone and have it delivered. I called from across the country and knew exactly what I needed and where to deliver it locally.
My call was forwarded to the Lewiston store because the phone wasn't picked up in Moscow. Talked to a great person in Lewiston and told me what I needed, shouldn't be a problem. He said Moscow was most likely with a customer, would transfer me to a specific employee in Moscow and if he didn't pick up, to leave a message as he's good at returning calls.
On Tuesday I had to call back, did not get the model I wanted because it wasn't in stock (said it was their website) but the person did have a comparable suggestion within my price range and found a quick delivery date. I didn't realize until writing this review that I was not offered a warranty. That would have been a good idea as this was a gift.
