If you are able to adopt from a humane society or else where, I would encourage that instead of adopting through Karma Kat . I adopted a 4 month old kitten from them 3-4 weeks ago, and I have since spent $550- $600 in vet bills. First, I took him to a vet shortly after I adopted him because "conjunctivitis" that he got from Kat Karma wasn't improving. From that initial appointment, I learned after some new patient lab work, that he in fact did NOT have conjunctivitis, but ended up testing positive for Giardia. His eye condition was rather triggered by stress. When I went into Kat Karma and told them he was not doing great, they suggested that the vet I took him to could of had false lab results and tried to tell me that he was healthy when they had him.
During the healing process of the parasite infection, he was displaying signs of another sickness that I am now spending 100s of dollars trying to figure out. I am extremely frustrated and disappointment because I was told by Karma Kat that I was adopting a healthy kitten, when he has been fighting for his life these past three weeks that I have had him. The fact that I am having to entertain the idea of euthanizing him because he is getting so sick and losing muscle mass is unacceptable.
I am not sure if they have the proper resources to conduct thorough wellness exams, but it is upsetting to know that those adopting these cats/kittens are unaware of any conditions that they may have.
Additionally, before I adopted my kitten, I asked if he was tested for FIV. They responded by saying that he was too young to be tested at 4 months old. I later found out that cats can in fact be tested for this as young as 8 weeks old. Overall, I am now extremely overwhelmed and swimming in vet bills because I was given a cat that...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis place adopts sick kitties, adopter beware !UPDATE! I noticed that there was a reply from the owner about this issue. I would like to go in depth of the issues about adopting a kitty from here, based on what the vet told me. I would like to also note that when this was brought up with the facility, they blamed me for all the issues, and they are,
Upper respiratory infection Ear mites Tape Worms Fleas Haw's Syndrome (due to the worms), causing diarrhea, vomiting, lethargy. The first night the kitty was at the house, he started having breathing problems, and had to go to the MSU emergency vet which was the closest open facility. They took him straight back due to the severe respiratory distress that kitty was having. After putting him on oxygen and checking him out, the vet Dr. informed me of everything that I listed above.
I've also heard of other cats that have been adopted out with other infections, fatal infections that spread to their other cats. One cat mother lost the adopted cat, and their two other fur children from the infection that was brought home from the adopted cat.
Adopters beware, while they try to do a great thing, and help all the kitties, they might not have the ability or facility to accommodate a healthy...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have to start with the fact that I have 7 rescue cats of my own and I felt like I was cheating them, at first. I realized that my kitties understand, they were in similar situations too. I was brought to tears. My teenagers found this place and asked to go (such a proud mom moment)! Going into the actual cat room was such a mix of feelings. These beautiful creatures....like 30 of them all doing cat stuff and just relieved to be warm and loved. The horrors they must have endured...breaks my heart time and time again. But the sense of gratitude was calming. The place was so cute and clean. I needed this and my kids loved it, therapy for them and us. The ladies running this beautiful establishment deserve so much credit and respect. I spoke with the owner briefly, a beautiful woman with gorgeous purple hair, and she is a Goddess! Go pet some cats, donate, spay/neuter!!! I felt at home with these amazing creatures and the folks that fight the good fight for the...
