Racist or incompetent?
I’ve been coming to this Best Buy for a couple of years and have been usually satisfied with the service. However, today was different. I went in to get a podcast mic so I got a Rode mic with a USB-C input. I wanted to know if it can connect directly to my MacBook Pro or if I needed to buy a connector.
A few feet away from where the mic was kept, there was an information center/help desk. You know, the place where an employee… helps. That was the assumption I had when I approached the lady there who had her Best Buy uniform on looking at some pieces of paper. I tried to greet her with a “Hello” but she barely looked up and said she was busy.
Now, I’m no looker. I am a 33 year old Indian man with a pot belly. I’m no where near good looking or intimidating. I wore a golf tee and grey pants and was holding an item costing $140 before tax. So asking a question about the product shouldn’t be out of line. Perhaps I was a shabbily dressed Indian man who didn’t qualify for her support on my question which I couldn’t even ask. We spent a good 30 seconds where she pointed me to another information center further away from the cashier in the section boldly labelled Microsoft.
I don’t know the logic behind this. My assumption is if someone is in the information center section, their job is to help. The only way they can truly be busy is if they are engaged with a customer. This was not the case here. I’m really hoping that my color of skin and appearance didn’t play a role in me being denied service. If the staff at Best Buy has a prejudice, it will be a bigger problem to handle so I’m hoping this particular employee just had a poor understanding of what her roles and responsibilities were.
While paying for my purchase, I asked to speak with a manager and the lady at the counter went across and brought her colleague who immediately admitted he wasn’t a manager but would listen to me. I explained my situation and he promptly offered that sometimes it is possible for someone to redirect you to another section. I agreed with him but asked if the employee had to atleast listen to the question I had before being redirected. He agreed that is the protocol. He apologized for his colleague as what any good team member would do hoping for this to go away. But I don’t understand how I can be denied basic service. While the color of my skin can vary from others, the dollars I spend is the same green regardless.
What on earth do I need to do to avail the service the business is supposed to guarantee??

Read moreI wish I could give 0 stars. Worst experience ever. I have been harassed by the Best Buy customer service for 3 months now and the issue has still not been resolved. Total tech is a complete scam. Completely unprofessional people arrive to install the treadmill, do not arrive as scheduled and do not even know how to do an installation or demo. I was promised a compensation for the inconvenience and that is another scam. They inconvenience you further by not issuing the gift card and lying and giving false timelines. TLDR; I ordered a treadmill on January 1st 2023. It was scheduled to be delivered and installed on February 1st. I paid the extra $ for demo and installation. The delivery guy confirmed to arrive on Feb 2nd between 11AM-7 PM PST. Did not come and did not even call or text. Next day he texted that he would be arriving by 3 PM but finally arrived after 7 when I texted that I was losing 2 days of pay because of this appointment. Completely unprofessional people, very rude and were even fighting amongst themselves while installing. They were not trained to do any demo which was promised while purchasing the machine. The NordicTrack treadmill had a defect. We went back to the store to complaint and they escalated to Total Tech and ordered for a reinstallation and demo. The second set of technicians who arrive on 21 Feb have no clue about demo. They suggest we get a replacement because the treadmill seems to have a defect. We get a replacement ordered and that arrives first week of March. The treadmill thus installed is also defective and the console does not work. Regarding the compensation that they had offered for the inconvenience has still not been received. They confirm on the call that it will be received in 7-10 days but still not received. Have been on call multiple time for HOURS. Have spoken to Ryan, Ketan from Primary Support, Anna from Appliance Department (she hung up on me when I asked to speak to someone senior who could resolve the issue), Second call- spoke to Neel from Total Tech level 1 who transferred to Kevin to John to Shoaib to Razil. Read moreThis is for installation services only. I've had 2 dash cams installed at different times about 18 months apart. The first one was a 3 camera system, front, interior and rear. When discussing the installation the guy kept saying do you want the rear cam a backup camera. Since it will always active no matter waht direction the car is going it will act as a backup up cam when backing up and then just be on when going forward or stopped. He can't seem to grasp that and keeps asking if i want it to be a backup camera. It seemed to work allright until i noticed some months later that the splice in the center console was exposed with no tape and shorted out against the exposed metal shorting out the system. Then against my better judgement i had another unit in a different car installed about 18 months later. 3 cam, front, interior and rear and again the guy asked about the rear being a backup cam. So again i explained that the rear cam was on all the time and not strickly a backup cam. I did purchase a wiring kit so the cam would work when ignition off and car sitting dormant when parked to catch any incidents recorded when parked. Turns out the other day i say something going on with the car as i was walking towards it but to far away to catch up to them. I thought awww i'll pull up the recording to see what went on. When i went to pull the video it says i need the special wiring kit to record when car is dormant. I DID purchase the kit and was told it was installed. Obviuosly i was straight up lied to as it was not installed yet i paid for the kit as well as the installation. Sadly this store was the only store available as the 2 others were way booked up for 6 months ahead. Find another pace if you can for installation as this place has shoddy work and charges for what they don't do but tell you they did the work. Cams work ok when running but there's no dormant mode recording...
