I recently visited Neil Alan Fine Jewelry to assist my elderly mother thin out some of the jewelry she has accumulated over the years and selling it to this establishment. We selected Neil Alan based off of the reviews and information obtained on their website, especially because they advertised that they purchased diamonds.
The gentleman who assisted us was a tall slender fella and no there was no doubt he was knowledgeable in his craft, but unfortunately information and or explanations as to the price offered to purchase numerous gold rings with several of the rings containing diamonds, the gentleman wasn't very free flowing in explaining things. Our question asked came as the gentleman returned from determining a gold melting weight and a figure for that weight. Our question was what about the diamonds contained in those rings, how much were they going to pay for them? The gentleman stuttered and said they just pay for the weight of gold.....it doesn't take a genius to figure out he was trying to get over on us. My mother not wanting to press the issue and just rid herself of the jewelry simply accepted the gentleman's offer without question.
I decided to present a different piece of jewelry to see exactly what the gentleman had to say about it. Mind you I had no intentions of selling my ring but to simply gauge his honesty. The piece I presented was a men's 1ct 5 diamond 14k white gold wedding ring that retailed for 3k. Now I'm not naive and didn't expect the gentleman to suggest a price anywhere close to that, but figured it may fetch around $800. The ring was in excellent condition and wouldn't be something a jewelry store wouldn't melt but rather resell.
The gentleman quickly examined the ring and provided a response that convinced me not to return to do any business with Neil Alan Fine Jewelry. The gentleman offered $300 and again stated he would just pay for the golds melt weight and when I asked what about the diamonds, he simply replied their poor quality diamonds...now this absolutely did not offend me, because one, to me a diamond is a diamond and I fully believe the old saying beauty is in the eye of the beholder and two this gentleman is a dishonest man. I say this not because I believe my ring is worth some ungodly amount of money, but rather due to the man's attempt to take advantage of someone he more than likely thinks to be hard up and strapped for cash that their property is poor quality and not worth much.
I'll let viewers decide for themselves, do you think a jewelry store would melt this ring or does it look poor quality? The pictures are unedited, no filters simply natural sun light, point and shoot.

I felt it necessary to submit a little support to my review above, so people know what they're getting with Neil Alan fine jewelry.
About two weeks after visiting Neil Alan, I took my mother to Tiffany custom jewelery who purchases gold and diamonds as well. This jeweler in located in Nampa as well right next to the reel movie theater. My mother brought some jewelry along with ALL of the SAME jewelry Neil Alan's looked at and said wasn't real. Apparently this was not the case, surprisingly there were much more pieces that were real gold that the Neil Alan employee passed off as not gold. Not only were many pieces real gold but also fetched much more money at Tiffanys! And yes, I also brought my diamond ring. At this point is was no surprise to me when the owner said he would pay 1k for my ring. But again, I wasn't there to sell it. Take it for what...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy husband bought my white gold engagement ring from Neil Alan in May. I brought it in to get it sized. When I got my ring back, I brought it home after theyād finished, and realized it was completely scratched, yellow and looked awful. Weād never bought expensive jewelry like this and expected my ring to still look the same after they sized it. I brought it back and they apologized and said they would fix it. I picked it up again and the scratches were mostly gone and I didnāt notice the yellow. We then went to look at wedding bands elsewhere. When we put my ring up against their white gold bands, we realized my white gold ring was STILL yellow. I brought it back again and they said their machine ran out of rhodium and thatās why it looked like that. They knew they had a problem with their machine and didnāt contact me or tell me. I donāt know why a business would give out a piece they knew wasnāt right. They said they would fix it but the man was visibly irritated at me this time and roughly chucked my new engagement ring in the package as if their mistake was my fault and was irritated he had to fix my ring again. I was horrified. Completely rude and disrespectful. I picked it up AGAIN and it was STILL YELLOW!!! My husband went in that time and demanded good business and that for the last time they fix it after all the money we spent there. My husband and I chose to let it go despite our experience, never come back, and not write a review.
Fast forward to October 29th, I had to go back because I needed a certificate of value for my ring so that I could get insurance on it. This is an absolutely normal thing to ask for. We didnāt think to ask for it at the time of purchase as weāve never bought expensive jewelry like this before and weāre advised to get insurance. They wanted to CHARGE ME $150 for what jewelry stores give out with their purchases for free. I was not asking for an appraisal, I was asking for a certificate of value for my ring at the time of purchase to give my insurance company. He said heād text me what I needed after I pushed the issue and told him Iāve never heard of being charged $150 for something all of my family members (who shop elsewhere) get for free and is offered to them. So now Iām writing a review to warn anyone else before they choose this business. I was completely appalled and I will never deal with them again. My husband and I went to Jensen Jewelers for our wedding bands in July after our horrible first experience at Neil Alan and at Jensen Jewelers, we were taken care of and had a wonderful experience. I went to Jensen Jewelers also for a certificate of value on October 29th, the same day, and they wrote the certificate and took care of it for me right then and there within 15 minutes. No ridiculous charges. The owner of Neil Alan texted me an invoice of my ring purchase the next day, after calling him and asking when I would receive it. He had apparently sent it to the wrong number and it took my following up to receive what I needed.
Overall I have not had a pleasant experience here and was very disappointed. I would not recommend...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreNeil Alan Fine Jewelry is precisely the Jewelry shop that I hoped and prayed for! I visited many jewelry shops in Boise and Nampa, looking for a trustworthy individual who listens attentively, prioritizes relationship with the customer, and who truly seeks the best interests of the customer. I am no jewelry connoisseur, I am not wealthy, and I am young. But I desired a simple, special engagement ring for the woman with whom I will spend my life. By their incredible generosity, I received the ring of my fiance's grandmother from her family. Naturally, this ring is invaluable to both my family and hers, and I could not entrust its renovation to just any jeweler. Like those reading this, I scanned the reviews for jewelry shops and based much of my decision on these reviews. With great confidence, I will say: Go to Neil Alan Fine Jewelry! I am deeply blessed by my experience with Neil. He greeted me the first time I arrived, and has been there each time I return. He listened closely as I told him what I wanted to do with my beloved's ring, he provided expert advice and helpful suggestions, he ensured I felt free in his store and applied no pressure to buy, he did not try to upsell me, he has provided his services at a fair price and has even resized the ring for me free of charge, he has taken the time to get to know me, and he says farewell each time I visit with a firm, encouraging handshake. By his fine workmanship, Neil has provided my new family with a beautiful engagement ring, and I will be returning to his store for my wedding ring, and a wedding band for my beloved. I also intend to bring an antique clock and a watch for Neil to repair. I will be returning to Neil Alan Fine Jewelry for all my jewelry needs. May St. Joseph, the Patron of Artisans and Workers, watch over your work and your...
