I don't know what other reviewers are talking about, clearly they must play at the Pebble Beach of muni courses, because this is a solid public course in the heart of downtown new braunfels.
As of February 2024, the fairways and tee boxes were all healthy and well-maintained, but the greens were hit-or-miss with some occasional dead patches.
The course layout is interesting. Very spread out so the course topography and vegetation changes throughout the round. Some crazy elevation changes on several of the holes with blind spots. It's a forgiving course design because the first six or so holes are fairly level with just a few water hazards, which allows you to get settled. But then once you jump across the road and under the bridge, hole 7 and beyond get really quirky.
There were deer grazing throughout the course, along with some waterfowl, which made it feel very peaceful.
The folks at the clubhouse were friendly and helpful and tried to make it work with whatever your situation is. Players on the course were friendly and followed golf etiquette.
Pricing was fair for a public course of this caliber and location. I did the twilight rate with a cart and it was $30.
The course is also in the center of new Braunfels so it's easy to go from playing golf to hitting up Oktoberfest to cruising the downtown bar and...
Read moreHaven't played here in about 25 years. And definitely haven't played since the renovation a few years back. A group of nine of this went up this morning to play. About 30 minutes north of San Antonio. Easy drive up this morning really worth the trip. The course was in great shape. The staff were friendly from the very beginning until the end. A large clubhouse but kind of a small pro shop. But enough to handle the business. Carts are in good shape. There's a nice pitching and putting green to practice on. They don't have a driving range but they do have six to eight hitting bays that you can use for free. Fairways and greens were in awesome shape as well as tee boxes. Several risk reward holes to try to take advantage of. Lots of water and sand traps that you have to account for on shots. We really enjoyed ourselves and I'm really glad that I decided to go today. Wish my camera was working on my phone so I could have taken some pictures. Maybe next time. If you're in the New Braunfels area or you're traveling that direction take your clubs and play Atlanta Park golf course it's definitely worth the...
Read moreA thesis in mediocrity. The course is well maintained and particularly nice for being in such a dry area and in an extended drought. The carts we clean and mostly well maintained.
The staff inside were snippy, and it was as if we had offended them by playing golf. Some odd course rules where we had to have two bags per cart even if they weren't being used. So we rented an empty bag and we rented a set of ladies clubs (no ladies in our group) to tote along. With the rules complied to now we had a bag per person, even if they were for kids who were mostly riding along and played a combined 12 holes (yes we had already payed for each of them to play the full 18).
The holes are crowded together and stacked one on another, which resulted in errant shots screaming by too many times for comfort or people playing into and from your fairway due to their poor shots. We were hit into three different times in spite of our pace being 3-12 minutes ahead.
Lots of wildlife as well, which helps you forget you're wedged between roads, an amusement park, and a...
