I was pleasantly surprised when I heard about a "mom & pop" type music shop opening in Newport! Stopping by one day I had the pleasure of meeting the Owner, Phil who was dropping off some new guitars from his New Canaan store. After talking with him a bit I decided to check out his original store in CT and although it was quite the drive I would urge anyone to see for themselves, the drive was well worth it! Fantastic and eclectic array of instruments, amps, pedals, you name it. Such a fun experience and I ended up running into Phil there as well, he was very generous with his time, showing me some neat unique guitars he had recently obtained. The staff member I mainly dealt with, Al (I believe) was impressively knowledgeable about not just the instruments and equipment but also on the workings of anything I was curious about. I ended up purchasing a pedal, cable and then realizing they were a G & L dealer figured there was nowhere better to purchase the guitar I had been wanting to buy. Not only did they match the price of the big box stores, the whole overall experience was just fantastic to say the least! Highly recommend giving your business to either of Phil's locations ( New Canaan & Newport ) Great work guys, much appreciated! Couldnt be happier and I look forward to seeing you again....
Read moreI brought my guitar in for a simple restringing. Two days later I got a text asking me if I would authorize further work as they found a problem that a "full set" fixture would remedy. They quoted me at $85 dollars including the cost of the restring. A few days later I went into pick it up and my bill was $125. When I showed them the text they said that the quote didn't include the cost of the strings plus tax. Tax I can handle, but they didn't think to just quote me the full amount?
What's worse, is when I showed them the text, they tried to blame it on the hourly wage worker, and promised me they would deal with them as if I want ownership to get someone living paycheck to paycheck in trouble for something that could have be remedied by simply honoring the original quote.
I think they think they can get away with this because most of this town is very wealthy and unfortunately I am not. It just rubbed me the wrong way despite the restringing job being done decently.
Unfortunately for them I perform in town regularly, and have a microphone that I am not afraid to use. I plan on spending the rest of my summer exposing...
Read moreI picked up my Godin guitar today, and the neck was unplayable on the upper strings. I was frantic. I called my friends at New Canaan Music and thank God Al answered the phone. He knows a great deal about guitars and is always more than kind and capable. NCMusic has NEVER let me down. All guitars have issues with weather and staying in tune and working well for performers. I have a big gig coming up and usually do have something musical going on. I need to rely on my guitar to play well and not have issues. They fixed it so fast and I brought it home, Yeah !!! I brought my Martin in for repair about a month ago, and they did a great job on redoing the top which cracked due to several weather and humidity factors. They also made sure the neck was good . At any rate, I feel so blessed to have a relationship with this great place, with so many great people who work there and really love music, guitars, and their clients. You can tell when people work with you from love and these guys are the best ever. Thank YOU NEW CANAAN MUSIC !!!!! I am so lucky to have you, and...
