Some time last week I noticed this for the second time, when the produce and fruit starts going bad, instead of throwing it away, giant eagle sells it for less. I thought I saw a great deal for raspberries for .99 cents but alas they were all molded. I could not find one package that was edible. I was able to salvage one pack of strawberries but still they should just throw rotten fruit away. I imagine an elderly woman, not looking at the fruit and just grabbing a package and placing it in her cart all to come home and realize that it was molded. It would be a one star if not for the amazing service of their employees. When I complained about the cut of the ribeye steaks, The butcher explained that the way they cut meat is according to giant eagle policy, which purposely has the butchers cut the ribeyes and leave on a lot of the chuck shoulder so you have to pay ribeye prices for a quarter pound of chuck shoulder per pound of ribeye. Amazing right? Either way his candor saved them from a 1 star review and I appreciate his honesty and they are lucky to have him. Also, their deli seems to always be out of land o lakes American and Isaly’s chipped ham.

Organic Kale... Out of 2 bunches never fails that's all leaves are covered in what looks. Like road dust, and 1/2 or more is wasted because it's too old (older than the other leaves in bunch) or its half bug eaten. It's quite obvious that whoever packages this kale slip in some of the bad kale with every package of good kale and I understand the marketing part and sales part of the whole equation if every one of they're Bunches of kale have 60% edible kale they will still sell and they can get rid of some of their bad kale to make up the weight. It's been like this at Giant Eagle for over a year every time I buy kale or any kind of greens but mostly kale and it's always the organic. The fact that giant eagles quality assurance does not catch this and find a different supplier is why they're only getting two stars obviously the people stocking the produce either don't care don't know or a combination of both. You will not find produce like this at most giant eagles but this one seems to be the exception by far

If you’re serving pot roast with mashed potatoes, you use pot roast gravy. This isn’t some niche culinary knowledge—it’s basic, obvious, common sense. But no, the employee ignored me mid-sentence and dumped turkey gravy all over my mashed potatoes like they were doing me a favor. Did they not notice the spoon sitting right in the pot roast for this exact purpose? Or did they just not care? This wasn’t a mistake; it was sheer laziness and disrespect for the customer. If your staff can’t handle the simplest tasks without steamrolling over people, maybe they shouldn’t be working with food. Stick to prepackaged meals where the decisions are made for you. At least then, customers wouldn’t have to witness this level of unprofessionalism. Shameful. Disgusting. Pathetic.

I felt like I was profiled when I was trying to get a mistake corrected. I had purchased some hot food at a different giant eagle location and it was never put in my bag. I called and explained what happened and was told by the manager that I could come back and they would correct the problem. I told her I lived 20 miles away and I did not have the money to pay for the gas to return. I explained that there was a giant eagle right across the bridge from me and she said I could go there and they would either replace the product or refund my money. When I went to the store they made me feel like I was trying to scam them for seven dollars worth of fried chicken. One woman even made the remark that if it happens again I would have to go back to the original store. This has never happened before and it should not have happened this time and it was not my fault in the first place. I was very mad but I kept my composure. The price of the food varies and I had to pay the difference for the substitute. I know that my skin color played a part in the way I was treated and I hope that no one else has to go through this embarrassment. Thank you for your time and consideration. ...
