I suspect the high ratings here are due to low standards. This place is not where you want to go for authentic, good quality sushi or sashimi. These restaurants exist in New Orleans. Unfortunately, this ain't it. It's more like an Applebee's of Japanese food, if you know what I mean. Because we live in Mid City and drive by every day, we felt that we should check it out at least once. Since it was Christmas Day and we had nothing else to do, we stopped in and were seated right away. I took one look at the menu and knew I wouldn't be trying any raw fish. I never trust a sushi roll menu as lengthy as theirs. Think "Jack of all trades master of none." I ordered the Teriyaki Shrimp and my husband ordered the Sashimi and Beef Teriyaki combo. We were served the clear soup and salad first. My husband's entree was brought about five minutes before mine. However, I was served chicken teriyaki by mistake. When I informed the waiter, he said, "Are you sure? I wrote 'chicken.'" After checking his notes and seeing that he did, in fact, write "shrimp," he took the plate, leaving the stir fried rice for me. He returned about 15 minutes later with the Shrimp Teriyaki. Unfortunately, the shrimp was undercooked. Because no one returned to check on us or to refill our drinks for another 20 minutes, I was able to "enjoy" a few bites of my husband's overcooked Beef Teriyaki until the waiter came back. He offered the Sashimi and I joked that I wasn't going to trust anything raw from this establishment. By the time the waiter returned to check on us, my husband had finished his meal. I informed him that the shrimp was undercooked; showing him the parts of shrimp that were still grayish. He asked me if I wanted him to take it back to cook longer and I said no. I told him that I would pay for the stir fried rice, but not for the entree. He apologized and brought our ticket with the entree removed. We paid for my husband's meal and the stir fried rice. 36 hours later, my husband paid again for his meal when he was suddenly struck with the symptoms of food poisoning: nausea, abdominal cramping, watery diarrhea, chills, fatigue, low grade fever. As of today he is still recovering. TL;DR: Go elsewhere for authentic Japanese Food. Poor service and questionable food quality and handling/storage. Best case scenario, they'll botch your order. Worst case scenario, you'll get food poisoning.

I used to be a regular here when I lived in the neighborhood but haven’t really been since Covid when we picked up delivery a few times. This is NOT the same place. Walking to seat ourselves at the table (after being instructed to) I could literally hear and feel the stickiness of the floor. The same thing happened on the way to the bathroom. Completely gross. Then I tried to order a lunch bento box and was told they are only doing dinner. It was barely 2pm and the menu said until 4pm with no days specified. That’s fine, I’ll take the dinner portion/price. Salad comes out and it’s just iceberg lettuce and a runny ginger dressing. Miso comes out and it’s not only room temp but completely bland. Literally tasted like water. Spicy edamame comes out with no salt but a drizzle of a brown sauce that tasted foul. Sashimi appetizer comes out on the same iceberg lettuce the “salad” was made of and did not look fresh. Then my chicken teriyaki comes out and aside from not getting the spring roll it was supposed to come with, the fork was dirty and the dish itself smells like dish water. Gross. The rice smelled off. The chicken was plain, dry, and bland and the teriyaki sauce neither looked nor tasted anything like teriyaki. And typically when I’ve order this dish at a place with hibachi, it’s hibachi cooked. This was mass prepared with sauce drizzled. I should’ve followed my first mind and gone to Royal Sushi on Royal/Touro. One of the best sushi spots in the city.

We went for a coworker's birthday at 11:30am lunch. It was not very crowded at all. Parking was a little difficult to find since its a small parking lot. We were seated quickly and ordered our drinks and ordered off the menu. Staff was attentive enough. I wouldn't term it friendly. Lunch combo comes with clear soup, salad (very small), vegetables, fried rice and your choice of protein. My lunch of steak and shrimp with a $3 green tea came to $29. Our group's concerns were about the leftover dried rice and food still left on the hibachi grill as we waited for the chef to arrive. We wondered why it hadn't been cleaned from the night before. The chef arrived about 20 minutes after seating and confirmed our individual orders. Best part of lunch was the flame burst as chef used oil to torch the hibachi. The rice was very good. Several of my coworkers ordered steak and shrimp combo along with me. I ordered steak medium. Chef served my steak well with everyone else's choice. It wasn't dry but not my preference. It's been a while since I visited a hibachi restuarant, but I remember more fanfare with cooking the meal in front of the customers and general chatting with the seated guest from the chef. The restuarant allows for separate checks, will charge a small differential for paying with cash versus credit card. Overall it was a good meal. No one tried the sushi. Maybe on another visit if we give it another try.

Absolutely do not recommend. This was the worst hibachi place I have ever tried. The soup (that every hibachi place has) was awful. It had a noodle or two in it which was fine except, the soup tasted as if they scooped the water they used to boil the noodles into a bowl to serve us. It tasted like boiled noodle water. The rest of our hibachi table (all strangers to us) agreed it tasted so awful. The ginger salad (that every hibachi place has) was on that level as well. It had a weird smell and dressing to lettuce ratio was as if they couldn't afford to put more than a tablespoon in it. The dressing itself was just horrid. I watched them cook our food. We both ordered steak and shrimp fried rice. I don't like the vegetables so I always order double fried rice and no veggies. Well, we had to ask permission to do that. Which doesn't surprise me considering their menu literally says there's an up charge if you share plates. WHAT. Okay. Apparently, this place can dictate what you do. I feel sorry for those who have small children and going here. The steak and shrimp was awful. Steak tasted horrible. He poured some type of power over it while it was cooking. Not sure what it was but it was gross. The meat was so tough and chewy. The shrimp was old. The rice was weird as well. It just had some weird smells with it. To make matters worse, the place is quite pricey. It was double the price of any place back home to no quality. The service was rough. The chef ignored you the entire time. The server was no where to be found. Absolutely not. DO...
