I’ve lived here for 2 years for grad school. My experience has been mixed. I’d say its proximity to Columbia, public transportations, and nearby food options is its biggest strength. The doorman who works dayshifts on weekdays is the best. He’s kind, respectful, and easy to communicate with. He greets you with a smile every time. Adam the supervisor has also helped me and my roommate out with maintenance and repair.
But other than the location and the two staff members, this apartment is way overpriced for the actual living experience. The amenities are mediocre: small gym, very limited washer/dryer units, and dim lounge. I would suggest everyone check the washer before using because 8 out of 10 times it’s going to be dirty. Wipe all the nooks and crannies in there if you don’t want your clothes to come out dirtier than before. The basement is also prone to roaches. Especially during summer months you’ll see dead or near-dead roaches littered on the floor of the gym and sometimes the lounge. Simply put the amenities could’ve been maintained better and cleaned more frequently.
Noise is an even bigger concern here. As another reviewer has mentioned, you’re most definitely going to be bombarded by all the sirens from nearby hospitals, fire departments, and cop cars. Sometimes they do constructions in the middle of the night, so if you’re a light sleeper this will be quite a nuisance. I must point out the annoying yet inevitable façade repair that’s been going on since last summer and is now resumed. I understand it’s mandated, but for people like me who work from home, the disturbance is unbearable. I had to relocate every day to avoid the drilling and hammering. And for students who need some extra hours of sleep in the morning, the noise is detrimental to their wellbeing. Aside from the noise, the windows don’t close well. Even if they appear to be closed, the dust can still fly in. Once I found the entire window sill littered with dust and particles. Indeed this is not entirely the workers’ fault, but I would expect the building to at least install some preventive measures instead of just telling us to “keep the windows shut” because it didn’t work. So beware of this issue if you stay during summer months and the fall semester.
All in all I’d say this apartment is not worth the exorbitant rent + brokers fee and guarantor policy you had to pay. With all the money the building charges, they could’ve done more to improve the quality of living here. Otherwise,...
Read moreFor a building that charges four thousand dollars for a one bedroom, it has almost no amenities or public spaces. There are only four washer and dryers down in the basement of this twenty story building, and it closes at 11 pm. There is no in unit washer unless you live in the penthouse. Free events hosted by the management company are all held at their midtown locations, nothing here.
Horrible location for a residential building. There is a fire station and a nursing home across the street, and Mt Sinai's emergency is on the other side of the avenue, meaning that there is always loud siren around the clock. The window air conditioners don't seal off completely so it's basically a cracked window, which is definitely not noise minimizing. This section of Amsterdam avenue is two way so it's packed with noisy trucks and buses day and night.
No moves are permitted on weekends. Also, per the management and the super, a self move means your friends and family can't come into the building and help you move stuff. So I had to drag everything by myself, including my mattress, from my apartment to the elevator, to the lobby, to the curb, and then my folks can help me load...

It is time to do justice now. I wrote several emails to the staffs of this building, complaining about the crazy electric drill sounds that lasts from 7 a.m. (sometimes even 6 a.m.) to 5 p.m., from Monday to Friday over the last four months. Who knows how long this noise would last. And what they replied? They said 'Sorry, the noise comes from the Mount Sinai hospital next to us. And we can do nothing about it.'
Yeah, you can certainly do something like negotiating with our crazy neighborhood, calling the police, etc. But if you did nothing, then it is simple, don't earn money! It is about time to let all people who are considering this building know that you guys only care about money, but not the well-beings of...
