Dr. Kini is a gifted surgeon but sorely lacks people and communication skills. In May, she performed heart valve replacement surgery for my 94-year-old father to address breathing and fatigue issues. The surgery was a success medically, however my father was still experiencing the same issues after surgery. Note that it has only been 6 weeks since surgery, so his condition may improve with a little more time. However, during the post-operative consultation that lasted 5 minutes, upon observing my father’s condition, she stated that the new valve should have brought some improvement by now. Then she asked me, “What do you expect for a 94-year-old man?” Surprised by the question, I replied that I expect my father to walk more than 10 feet without having to stop and rest, and that my father (who otherwise was, and still is, in excellent health for his age) is experiencing discomfort due to a certain condition and not because of his age. She dismissed my response and asked the same question and said that with age, he won’t be the same. Agreed, but her insistence that it was due to his age annoyed me. Clearly, my father’s matter was due to something other than - or in addition to - the former valve, but she didn’t feel the need to discuss in-depth any other possibilities or options. It felt like she was hinting that her job as surgeon was done, and that she was passing him onto someone else. She asked if he has been seeing a geriatrician, to which I replied he hasn’t. Then she ended her review by saying that his valve was fine and that it could be due to another condition - thyroid perhaps - and that he should consult with his primary care physician. She didn’t even bother to recommend a geriatrician. I was upset and commented as much to the other physician and nurse practitioner after Dr. Kini left the room. She needs to understand that being a surgeon requires more than an ability to cut someone open, and that talking to family members and patients about other options means something. I will never take my father back to...

Read moreI was referred to Dr Kini and told she was the best. I read up in her and she had a great record. Unfortunately my experience was not a good one. I previously had 2 stents in the LAD and was still experiencing shortness of breath. I was referred to her to see if the area was blocked again and to perform radiation if it was. The area was not blocked but during the procedure she said she saw blockage in a branch and ended up dissecting the branch at which time I immediately had chest pain which turned out to be a heart attack. She stented the branch and when I was in recovery and totally doped up she told me I had a blockage and that it was dissected and stented. Never mentioned that I had a heart attack. Spoke to my husband on the phone and never mentioned it either. I was admitted overnight snd she never came to see me and I felt terrible which was different than previous catherizations I had I kept asking to see her and finally another doctor came in. I was never told I had a heart attack. I did not return to her when released. Months later I saw a new cardiologist and when he reviewed the cath report he said that he did not see blockage on the branch that was dissected. So basically I ended up with another stent and a heart attack for no reason and a dishonest doctor who didn’t own up to her mistake. So much for her being the best. And how she didn’t check in on me after the procedure is beyond belief. If you are looking for a physician with bedside manner who cares about her patient she is...
