I have spent hundreds of dollars in this store as I am an enthusiastic home baker and was initially thrilled to find a store with such a wide selection so close to my home. So I was very disappointed when I visited recently with a friend and our young children. As you can imagine, children are wowed by the spectacle of all the brightly colored candies and gummies on display, so we were doing our best to keep them close to our side and make sure they didn’t pick anything up or damage anything. I was all set to purchase supplies for Halloween baking when the shopkeeper loudly said to another shopper, “this is exactly why I don’t want children in here!” Our kids hadn’t damaged anything, or negatively impacted the business in any way. In fact, there was only one other customer in the store. Apparently, this candy store doesn’t welcome parents with children. I guess I’ll be buying my baking goods on amazon from now on.
Updated with response to owner:
You weren’t polite or very polite. Your self awareness is clearly lacking, and you can see this from numerous other reviews describing your poor service.
Our kids were not running around in the store at all. I closed the door to your back room, which was left open and full of boxes as a courtesy to you, as I imagine it was left open in error.
My daughter picked up 2 items total during the time we were in the store, and I quietly asked her to put them down, which she did. She is 2, after all. Again, they caused exactly zero damage to your merchandise. We both take responsibility for our kids and were making sure they did not open any packages or break anything.
You loudly said to the one other customer, “This is why I don’t want kids in here!” I think that comment speaks for itself.
Your response to my review speaks volume about how you feel about customers, especially customers with children, which is apalling considering you own a candy and baking store.
Finally, I simply wrote this review to warn other patrons that you have publicly announced your desire to keep children out of the store. Our kids, as you say, were crying because we had to hastily leave the store before making our purchase because you made it resoundingly clear that we were not welcome. Your dislike of children is duly noted. The good news is, everything in your store can be purchased on Amazon for similar, if not...
Read moreThe store is located in the Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn. They sell various candy and other baking supplies. I located this store on Google and decided I would visit it. The website listed the store hours and included Monday with the store open for business. I was interested in purchasing candy for a family member. This past Monday the weather was cold with snow. I drove to the store and it was very difficult to park. I finally obtained a parking spot and walked to the store. The front gate was half up. I repeatedly looked for anyone who is employed at the store. I called the store's telephone number and a tape stated that for the month of January the store has different hours and is closed on Monday. The next day I called the store and spoke with a male who did not identify himself. He may have been the store owner. I asked several questions about their candy and explained what had previously happened on Monday. The male stated he would look into the situation and sounded annoyed. He was not polite or professional and did not apologize for the inconvenience of traveling to a closed store. He then quickly ended our conversation. Very disappointed with this customer service. I can not recommend spending quality time and money making any purchases at this store with other...
Read moreThe store, owned and managed by Charlie, is wonderful - not only because it is fully stocked with baking supplies and candies but because they run cookie decorating and cupcake decorating classes in the back room. For my kids 5 & 7 birthdays, we decided to host their friends at the Choc-Oh! Lot Plus store for these hands-on classes, which we would now recommend to othere.
Each class is run by a different instructor. Amy, the cookie pro, was wonderful - super attentive to every child, patient, and kind. Michelle, who did cupcake decorating with butter cream and fondant, was equally hands on and made everyone feel like a pastry chef in the making. In both classes, the kids took home a box with their creations (4 decorated cookies or 6 cupcakes). To make the party complete, we ordered pizzas from Rocco's across the street, brought in juice boxes and ice cream.
Note: due to room size, the most number of attendees it can fit is 16 kids + instructor.
We would highly recommend Choc-Oh Lot Plus for your party or social event. Our kids and their guests had a...
