We had to make an impromptu trip to the embassy a few weeks ago. Im not sure why everyone always puts down this embassy. I understand that everyone has their own experiences. However, I've had to deal with this embassy several times via email, phone, and post and have never had a bad experience! They are quick to respond back to emails, even to my husband who is Algerian (so it's not just that I'm a US citizen) and more often than not they answer the phone as well. It was our first time having to visit in person for a biometrics appt for passport renewal. The staff were kind and friendly, and we were in and out very quickly. Now we wait, of course, since the passport is actually processed in Algeria. If you know, you know. šŸ¤“ However, it was the expected kindness and hospitality that you get when even visiting Algeria. Honestly, the US embassy in Algiers could take a few lessons from this embassy in courtesy and kindness. Thank you Algeria!

Tres bon service .very good customer service and Very professional staff, i was surprised by how efficient and quick i was able to get my things done in no time and you can even see how hard they work and try to please everyone as they treat everyone equally, very proud of these people they deserve all the respect 🫔. Coming back soon to renew my Passport and i have no doubt that i will be getting the same great service .

Outstanding hospitality! The entire team was polite, friendly, and highly responsive. I arrived at 1:00 PM and left by 1:45 PM with both of my kids’ visas in hand — incredibly efficient. While it’s true that phone calls often go unanswered due to limited staff, as they explained, they were very responsive via email and addressed most my inquiries. Very satisfied with the service. Keep up the great work! šŸ‘

by no means, these people are business and customer oriented people. I have submitted papers for renewal of registration cards, as well as draft papers and passports, about 3 months ago. In the past, you get these papers within a week, with a follow up, in case you miss some papers. That was then; now, things are extremely different and so you have to cross your fingers; i have called a million times (west coast), but the phone is constanly and forever busy or disconnected; I finally got hold of them and so i told them about the papers that i sent 3 months ago. the person did not even care to check my registered and express letter; the answer I recieved from the peepsquek told me that THEY ARE SO BUSY THEY WILL NOT OPEN THE MAIL IN ABOUT 3 MONTHS?????????????What does this mean??? is this a consulate or what ?????. I still have not recieved any papers from them and i do not know if they will ever send them. My opinion is they are a piece of crap and any business that runs like this is bankrupt; my us passport has been recieved within a month, as well as my taxes, done the same day. VIVE BOUTEFLIKA, VIVE L'ALGERIE ET VIVE VOTRE PLAISANTERIE. I have also noticed that these people do not arabic, but they fluently speak FRENCH and try to speak english, very barely; who are these people and how did they get there. My only guess is they have connections and are the sons and daughters of these new figures in algeria, who are the so called leaders of algeria. imagine saadani amar, the thief and leader of the FLN, has his daughter in london as a vice consul, with no knowlwdge of english and getting paid £10,000. WHAT A SHAME AND WHAT A BLASPHEMY. If this is the case, we are all fried; it could that they do not want us there, especially people who are educated, experts in the field..............i...

I received my passport yesterday and only because I did not send in my request form earlier. The only thing I have to say that is that the Consulate website does not update the tracking page. I had to call in order to find out that the passport was ready. Good news was that we no longer have to travel to NYC to pick up the passport.

December 2015: I have read many reviews and heard from many that the service received at the Consulate in NYC is awful. So when it was time for me to apply for my Biometric Passport I prepared myself for the worst especially when I had not been able to speak to anyone at the consulate. So I took the chance and booked a ticket to NYC. Two days before my trip I called again and someone answered and the reply was amazingly positive. I arrived at the consulate on Saturday and everything was going so well that I kept waiting for the shoe to drop. But nothing bad happened, I signed up, waited for my name to be called to verify that all the paperwork was good. Waited another 40 mins for the fingerprints and picture. The whole process took an hour and 10 mins .. not bad at all . it gave me time to roam around NYC ,,and the consulate is right by the Rockefeller Center which was very nicely decorated for Christmas.

I am not sure what others' experiences were but it pays to be nice, ready, patient and always carry a smile. The consulate's staff is under a lot of pressure and I think that they handled themselves very nicely even when there were people who came unprepared and with a negative attitude.

I wish I could remember the names of everyone who worked that day, but Karim is the one I recall and he was nothing but professional and courteous.

So as I await for my passport, I say thank you to the NYC Consulate...

Me and my husband had to travel 3 hours to this embassy. We were in communication with one of the employees weeks before our trip there, and she told us exactly what we needed to bring to process specific documents, or so we thought. When we gave her all the documents she told us to bring, she kept coming back and forth asking the same questions, talking/dealing with other citizens paperwork, and was basically a scrambled mess. After 1.5 hours, she came back to us with his documents, and paper work he filled out there, and said she basically could not complete her job and file the paperwork. The reason being, the notarized documents she told us to bring, were not in French or Arabic. She never mention that before! Why not include that important detail when explaining to him over the phone 2 separate times?! Also, we emailed them weeks before arrival, other specific documents. She said she could not print them bc their printer was broken! What kind of embassy is this? Only 1 printer?! She gave us everything back, including the valid documents and said we still had to fill out separate documents online, and she wasn’t going to save what we had. That basically we had to submit everything at once. All of this could had been a lot easier and less irritating if she would had said the specifics the first time over the phone when asked! It seems like they give people the run around to waste their time, so they don’t have to do real work. Zero efficiency, and organization. When I expressed our frustration, of our wasted time, and her lack of professionalism, she got loud and argued with me that EVERY embassy in the world does not answer their phone, or email, like them. Pathetic! I will be contacting state representatives to report...
