Be very careful in here. Make sure you watch what is going on around you. Security is not the best here, so there are often random people who don't rent here hanging out inside. This location is a scary wreck. There's hardly any dollys on the floor, so you have to walk around for a while on the floor to find one. One time, there was this guy circling and circling around me with the craziest look on his face. I tried to ignore it, since it was almost closing time and I was trying to get out of there. All of the sudden, he grabs me off of the dolly in front of my locker and drags me down the hallways, then laid down on me in front of the elevators. I was terrified, I saw my life flash before my eyes, and knew I was about to be hurt by this crazed individual; it was only because two other customers happened to get off the elevator that caused the crazed individual to jump off me. I immediately went down to the office, where the two female workers had locked the door and called the police, because of this crazed miscreant acting crazy outside. Police came and took me to the station where they took pictures of all the bruises on my back and legs resulting from this incident. Be careful at Extra Space Storage on 40 Convent Ave/ 485 W. 129th St, which is a terrifying place, with barely any windows or light, and all kinds of not-all-there individuals stalking around the floors, who knows if they actually rent there or just walked in...
Read moreI have been a customer with Extra Space in Harlem for 6 months. Although because of the location, (it is pricey 5x5 is $211/mo.) you have peace of mind that your property is safe. I went to close my account over the phone before the new month renewed, with one of the reps who pro-rated the month and said they would cancel the auto pay. A few days later, they still withdrew the full month. I called them the following business day and spoke to Lee Martinez, to see what the issue was and if they could work with me in re-scheduling the move out since I had still been charged for the month, but needed to remove my belongings before June 1st. Although their computer systems were acting up, he said he would give me a call back. Note: In order to change your phone number on your account, you have to go in person. He called me back in a timely manner and liaised between the manager and myself to come to a new agreement. He was able to refund my $211 and we negotiated a new date. He was kind, polite, patient, and really wanted to make sure I was satisfied with my service because he was empathetic with my situation. I appreciate his following up with me and rectifying the mistake made by the initial employee. All star customer service....
