Got the lunch special with curry goat, rice, beans, and cabbage and the taste was absolutely phenomenal! It's a super affordable local food spot—most of the lunch special options are $7 (I believe the curry goat is the only one that is $9) and you receive a generous portion of meat for the price. The goat was extremely tender, and they poured a spoon of curry over the entire plate so it seeped into the rice, beans, and cabbage. Every bite was chock full of rich umami flavor without being too heavy. The customer service was wonderful as well! I'm not sure what the employee's name was, but I came on a Monday afternoon and he was super kind, helpful, and efficient with preparing the order. Island Grill is more of a take-out spot, so I took my food and enjoyed it at Morningside Park. I'll definitely be back soon—excited to try the oxtail next!

I ordered through door dash, two separate orders. Both oxtails Mac and cheese with plantains and one with an extra order of rice and peas. I only received oxtails and baked Mac for both orders and it took about 2 hours to get to me since placing order. The food was tasty but mostly fat on the oxtails and the Mac and cheese could have been more cheesy. The portion size is okay for the price as well but I will not order again, not worth it to me. You lose customers when you’re not paying attention to the service you’re providing. SLOW DOWN and make sure ALL orders are correctly sent out, not just the ones directly in front of you.

Vert nicely greeted and served quickly. I got a large plate with two sides being cabbage and greens with my rice and peas topped with jerk chicken. When i tell you this jerk chicken was grilled to perfection and the taste was all the way there. I loved it. The greens and cabbage was cooked well. My girl got some oxtails with rice and peas with some mac and cheese and lo-mein on the side. That was also good, who knew jamaicans were doing lo-mein so well. I didnt. Overall it was a great experience, I was in and out pretty quickly when i went at about 6 PM. Would definitely stop by again to try all the other food they have!

This is “THE MOST AWESOME” Carribbean Restaurant in NYC!! I love this place!! Everything on the menu tatters awesome and excellent!! I eat at Island Grill on 125th & Broadway frequently!! My whole family eats there!! The staff are excellent and are Black Excellence!! For quality, price, and quantity you cannot ask for a better place to buy your meals from on a frequent basis. For the not so frequent eaters of Carribbean Cuisine you still can’t get the same quality, quantity, and price all together anywhere else, But the quality of the food is better than anywhere else you can eat Carribbean Cuisine in NYC!! I am not related to anyone who works there. Neither do I have any personal relationships with anyone who works there. I am just very fortunate to live a Block away from the restaurant. Try it!! You won’t regret it!! And they serve “The Best” Chicken 🐔 Soup 🍜 to help get you well when you get sick and you actually feel better after you eat it!! I gave it to my kids and they got better!! Support this restaurant and you won’t regret it!! This is “NOT” a paid review either. I just can’t say it enough how great they and their menus and meals and food items are!! You can’t lose eating at this excellence restaurant!! I hope they expand throughout not just NYC but New York State as...

Before I get into the food, I would like to first mention how wonderful, charming and sweet the staff is. Each visit, I am greeted with a warm welcome and smiles! Literally shoutout to Karen and Kayla and the amazing owner of the place… Marvin! The food here makes sense! The flavor profile in each dish will take you to the Caribbean’s in each bite! If you like spicy, ask for their made in house spicy sauce! My favorite main dishes on the menu is the Stewed Chicken and Spiced Jerk Chicken! The stewed chicken literally melts in your mouth, the chicken comes right off the bone as if it didn’t belong there! The sauce/stew is rich and savory, and makes you feel ‘warm’ on the inside… LITERALLY! The jerk chicken is finger licking incredible! The rice and peas… OUT OF THIS WORLD, especially when you add the oxtail gravy over them! They always ask me if I want to add a sauce/gravy out of their selection, but if they don’t, be sure to ask them to add some sauce/gravy to your side dishes… IT WILL NOT DISAPPOINT!!!

I HIGHLY...

just like other places that give alot rice little bit of protein .the lady gave me several small pieces of chicken that would amount to 2 chicken thighs for a large order she was nice and polite i give her that last time i came the guy was a little bit better with the portions but anyway the order comes with two sides that they advertise and she started to ring me up with only 1 side so i ask if that counts as 2 sides the cabbage i was giving she said no and ask what else you want not much left i ask for yams and she gave me but almost did get it if i hadn’t said anything the lady was nice still kept her composure i think they have potential but definitely should take care of them orders a little bit better meat wise instead of filling up the container with mostly everything else. the chicken place before them really cater to customers gave a bang for the buck , i really missed the kennedy’s/mama fried chicken that used to be there before island...
