When I was a kid ya know back in the stone age the 90's i lived in Brownsville and luckily right behind Watkins st. Firehouse on Stone, now known as Mother Gaston Blvd. The Firefighters had a parking issue that could be solved by my Grandmother's parking lot adjacent to the firehouse so long story short they got to park and increased security to the lot Good 👍 Guys. At that time I was a reject had no friends and spent my days kicking cans until, I hear a voice??? As I later learned it was Battalion Chief Richard Fanning. He pulled me into the firehouse and gave me a short tour and explained the job, asked if I'd ever be intrested, I responded with a heck yeah after wearing the turnout gear and helmet of what I saw as heros I was just 10 years old, it started to become dusk and he ordered me home to be safe but I was impressed. Fast forward 1 year for my yearly visit to my Grandmother's apartment and I was quick to see Chief Fanning, but to my surprise he was gone replaced by a new Battalion Chief Jim McKenna again im surprised im welcomed to the house a bit differently I was given a much more comprehensive tour of the rigs and when the alarm sounded Chief McKenna threw a helmet on me and again real FDNY turnout gear that was waaaaay to big for an 11 year old. Then after a conversation with the Lieutenant of Ladder 121 I was shuttled on board superman thats what I saw her as with the insignias adorned on her still to this day. My very first fire run but far from my last. That day this Firefighter was born and I wanted nothing else to do for a living. I have to thank Chiefs Fanning & McKenna as well as all of the firehouse of FDNY Engine 231/ Ladder 121 They all helped me become a Firefighter that when I go on shift im happy to serve the members of the community. And the jokes everyone played on me are still funny. Would every house in the city pick up a 10 year old and turn then into a Firefighter??? After that time anything I wanted I was able to attain from my high self esteem. Not to bad mouth another review but I have a hard time seeing the members of this house leaving someone in need of help knowing they helped me so much??????????? Im puzzled. Tough neighborhood its hard to do their jobs, but im...
Read moreI don't mean to be disrespectful at all, lets get that out the way. I do hold a great deal of gratitude and respect for anyone who puts on a uniform and dive into situations to protect and save lives. However, I have had a very bad experience with members of this Fire Department. Recently, I was ill(I thought I was going to die) at the time I didn't know what was wrong with me, out of desperation I rang the bell to the Station(I was walking outside, happen to be right by the Station), 1 guy came out looked at me ask me what was wrong I told him. He said hold on, then shut the door and him and his comrades watched me from the other side as I crumbled in pain. "I remember their eyes as they looked at me, could they not see the pain I was in? why wouldn't any of them try to help me?" About 10 mins pass I thought the EMT would come do something but he stood in the back of them just watched. Then I thought maybe the ambulance would show up. But to my surprise the Cops did, the Firefighter then proceed to tell the Cops that I rang the bell** "Wait so you mean the Cops came because I ran the bell to the Fire Station but no ambulance for the reason I rang the bell in the first place." Eventually the Cops radio an Ambo which eventually took me to the hospital. Oh, yeah I was handcuffed. I've never felt any less of human like I did that night. I wasn't hostile to anyone, I wasn't rude or mean or irrational; Sure I made a few moans here and there because of the pain I was in, but does that justify the way I was treated? Maybe they thought I was insane of something. Nonetheless...... I don't know I thought they would of helped me, really hope no one ever falls into my situation and receive the same...
Read moreI went there in the summer of 2019. I spoke to one of the Firefighters there,in reference to them helping me informing the FDNY in telling them of my daughter and her service dog. In there kindness they took all my information and applied it to there Battalion chef in inserting it into the system in the event of a emergency. There professional over and above exceeded them in there care of being the BRAVEST. THANK YOU. YOUR KINDNESS IS OVERWHELMING JOYFUL,...
