This review is a very complex one due to the fact that it's not only about Gables but Hunter Douglas as well. My wife and I had our house renovated which included new windows. We looked for a company to design our windows in an elegant and functional manner. After looking and sorting through companies we chose Gables of New York. We dealt with Jody Hall primarily for all work that would be done in our house. Her husband Jim Hall would only measure and install the products we choose. They both came to the house measured the windows and we selected Top Down, Bottom Up blinds and curtains to dress the windows with. After sometime the blinds were ready and we scheduled to have them installed, the installation date came and the blinds were going in, that's when the problems began. First the wrong color blinds were ordered and there were 2 blinds not measured correctly, one in the living room and the other in my daughters room. A short time after that our very expensive Hunter Douglas blinds began to fail, they did not hold up level when utilizing the bottom up feature, 4 of them dropped and never held up tight in other words defeating the point of having a sheer/blackout combo blind. This problem happened in 4 rooms, so we contacted Jody and informed her of the issue, Jim came took pictures documented the issue and sent it into Hunter Douglas for replacement. Now while we are waiting for those to come in the blinds that were ordered that were the correct color came in and were installed, within 3 weeks those failed as well. Both Jody and Jim were taken back by this because they stated this never happened before. Jim inspected the blinds to see what was going on and I'm sure as anyone would to affirm no tampering was done with them. After confirming that the blinds themselves were the problem he once again took pictures and documented it for replacement. This issue happened 6 times in multiple rooms, we constantly contacted Jody to find out what was going on each time because mind you we had to what 5-7 weeks at a time for a replacement. We finally got fed up with getting no where with Jody and the lack of costumer service from Gables and contacted Hunter Douglas ourselves. Gables has a representative from Hunter Douglas which we wanted to speak with to find out what's going on with our replacement and why is there so many issue with these blinds. Jody did not allow us to speak with representative for some reason and we got no where with that. A big "investigation" was conducted by Hunter into the issue in which we as the customer had to constantly follow up with the order and progress instead of the company Gables in whom we ordered them from. Hunter themselves blamed the issue on a part that was sourced out to another company that failed. Now why is Gables customer service an issue other then what was stated, every time we texted Jody which was her preferred method of communication there was always an issue, sick child, she didn't feel good, traveling back from Manhattan, I'll look it up and get back to you (which she never got back to us) my wife would have to follow up then next day after not hearing from her just too many excuses. We have all this saved on text messages as well, not one time did Jody ever say or offer help in trying to get these issues resolved for us, the only statement she would offer is you have a life time warranty. The customer service is just not there with this company and the fight for your customer definitely not there. We spent a lot of money and we paid on time and in full but didn't get what we paid for, this should have been a smooth process but for a customer to fight for the product bought and not the authorized dealer is horrible and unprofessional. Read moreI reviewed Gables a couple of years ago for the superb job that they did on my son’s apartment! I had the pleasure of dealing with Jody and Jim very recently and feel once again that I have to say how absolutely terrific this company is. My husband and I had just moved into an apartment and there was a complicated problem with one of the power shades. They were installed by a different company (not Gables) several years prior. I couldn’t find anyone who worked on that particular make of shade (Lutron). Jody was nice enough to take a look at the shade and we both decided that it would be too complicated to fix so the best solution was to purchase a new replacement. Jody worked with me to find a beautiful but reasonably priced one. She is wonderful with design advice as well. When co-owner Jim came to measure for the new shade, he decided to first take one more look at the one that was no longer functioning. Jim simply wouldn’t give up on trying to find a solution to fixing the shade. Lo and behold, he was able to get it up and running again! It was really amazing. I witnessed what he had to go through to do it and it was no small task. It is back up and working beautifully. The main reason to retell this story and post this review is because Gables could have easily sold me a brand new power shade which I was ready to do. But instead they worked on the problem to solve it which they were not obligated to. This just goes to show what a reputable, trustworthy and professional business Jody and Jim are running. Read moreI needed new blinds for my home as I decided to do some major renovations and wanted to make sure we make a “smart home” Hunter Douglas came up on my search for new and innovative blinds. And I could not have made a better choice! I chose for my front house windows, the Duolite. Which is 2 in 1 Shades. Silhouette shade with light filtering and then blackout room shades for the night. The perfect balance. And I have Duette for my Sky Lights. I walked into the main store on New Dorp Lane, already having done some internet research. As soon as I walked in, I received a warm welcome and treated whole heartedly as if I was already part of their family! Everyone was beyond helpful and excited to show the innovations of wireless control of the blinds, which is what attracted me to this company initially. I have been working with Jody Hall and Jim and they have been amazing! They came to my home and measured every window and sat down to discuss the various options that I had. And then they came to do my installation, it was quick and easy. They explained all the functionality and also help set up all the wifi controls. As a company, they have been apt to respond to any of my inquiries. They put you as a customer first. I am very happy with my shades and plan to continue to use they again for other areas of my house as my renovations continue. Deciding to use Hunter Douglas is the smartest decision...
