I had an absolutely rotten experience at Gamestoria today and I will not be going there ever again.
I arrived to try to sell some MTG cards and buy some new ones. There was no AC (I would never knock a store for not having AC--I get it, things break) so I walked in to the (empty) store and said jokingly, "Wow I'm sorry but it's so warm in here."
This was clearly the wrong thing to say. The guy behind the counter looked furious with me. His tone was immediately hostile. He didn't greet me or ask how he could help me. Instead he said "What do you want?"
I get that it's hot but it was a bit rude. I shrugged it off. I said I wanted to sell some cards. Immediately the rude, dismissive tone from the employee: "I don't buy cards. That person isn't in today."
I asked when they would be in and got a "Tomorrow." I said ok I would just like to buy some cards then and that got another: "What do you want?"
I pull out my purchase list and read one example off and again the awful rude tone: "No you're not reading me a list of cards. You're writing down what you want." as he pulled out a stack of paper.
At that point I had enough. I told him he was being rude, he blurted out a half-hearted apology, and I walked out.
I totally get that it's hot out and it sucks to have to work in this heat. I also know working a customer-facing role often sucks too. I really try to be patient with everyone I interact with--I was never rude to this man, I never raised my voice, and I never said anything hostile. I just ask that people have the same courtesy with me. Gamestoria failed in that regard today.
I have been visiting Gamestoria every few months since they first opened. I have a loyalty account with them and have spent enough there that I was able to redeem some rewards. I am done with...
Read moreThe BEST card shop in the city. They have an impressive selection of MTG singles, something that no other shop in the city seems to have. Not only that, but they are the KINDEST people. I had an oddly specific request for basic lands from Onslaught and Odyssey (sets from over 20 years ago) and Damon (apologies if I'm spelling that wrong) went so far above and beyond, going to the basement to grab a big, glorious box of basic lands, help sort through them with me to find some gems, price everything quickly, all the while being extremely friendly and helpful. Damon, I apologize for making you look up the price of basic lands for half an hour. You are a gentleman and a scholar and I appreciate you and I...
Read moreGreat tabletop gaming store. Even in a big city we don't have many. Staff is always helpful, even when I'm just getting my steps in and killing time browsing. If you are into Magic the Gathering then this is the place for you. It's not for me but when someone asks it's where I send them. Every time they have said they loved it and wish they had known about it sooner. Their selection of minis and paints is much better than it was before. Their selection of board games is also evolving with usually the must haves always in stock. But it's also a reminder that I need more friends open to playing...
