Gina Hairstylist — Local services in New York

I went to Gina’s hair salon a few months ago to get a keratin treatment. They squeezed me in last minute which was so kind of them and I had Blanca do my hair. I will start off by saying Blanca truly did a great job on my hair and did it with care and attention to detail. The staff initially was very welcoming and warm.

The problem I had was in the end of the treatment when I was never told that the price was going to be 100 extra dollars than what was told to me in the beginning. I was actual told it would be no more than 350 and it ended up being 100 more than that. I would have been fine with it knowing the treatment does take a long time and if I’m told up front that they needed more product and I’d be charged for that then I’m more than happy to pay what is appropriate. But it really rubbed me the wrong way in the end going up to pay and then there being a 100 dollar surprise charge. Also in the end on top of that, I didn’t want to buy the shampoo and conditioner they recommended after the treatment (mind you I’ve been getting keratin for years now so I know how to preserve and take care of my hair afterwards) and I kept getting pressured to buy the products after saying no already a couple times! Not only by one person but 3. Another hairdresser doing someone else’s hair started pressuring me and said something like “if the treatment doesn’t last for you after a couple weeks it’s not our fault” which I felt was aggressive and again putting pressure on me when I’ve already said no about 4 times now. She definitely could’ve handled that more professionally and maybe asked me if this is my first time getting the treatment which I think she probably assumed it was, and then just politely told me what would happen if I didn’t take care of it. So overall as much as I do appreciate Blanca’s hard work on my hair, I definitely will not be returning because of the sour...

Update: Regret not making this my usual place. Thought I was saving myself money. I finally came back and remembered why I left such a great review. Took the time to ask what I want, discuss a bit, and realllly showed me how to style and care.

Literally rushed the write a great review!! I have bad hair anxiety but I didn’t feel nervous once I got here. Gloria did such a spectacular job with my hair and made me feel incredible. Doesn’t just ask for the cut you want and do it; she took her time to talk about my hair so that she can do a good job. 100%...

5+++ stars!! After a few years of home dye jobs, I’d finally botched it enough I needed professional help. Thanks to all the wonderful prior reviews, I headed to Gina’s. How I’ve lived in Brooklyn for this long and didn’t know about this place is beyond me. Clara worked with me, listened, made absolutely spot-on suggestions that I thankfully listened to, and I could not be happier with the results!! I made my next appointment before I left.
