It was not the best experience, but at the same time not the worst. I went in on Black Friday and the store was packed, but most of the staff was friendly, especially the staff working on the lower levels. My only gripe would have to be the fitting room on the top level. One of the works, for some odd reason doesn't want to talk, and instead points at stuff whenever she's asked a question. Not the friendliest worker either, monotone much so, but I digress. I do understand being reserved, but maybe it's not the best combination to put a worker with less than subpar social skills on a spot that requires human interaction. Moreover, It's a shame how there's a 5 item limit, and a chair or stand should be added to the fitting rooms. It just sucks having to place all the clothes on the dirty floor. For now I'm simply just left with mediocre results, I truly do hope it was just a one time thing as a result of Black Friday; as I truly love the brand, but if it's like this again, I might as well just stick to shopping online or importing from Japan. I'll. update my review if anything changes, when I visit again...
Read moreI decided to check out GU since I heard it was Uniqlo's sister brand, and Uniqlo is one of my favorite stores.
As of now, you can only buy clothes from the physical GU store. The Instagram page (@gu_usa_official) is how you can find out what promotions are going on.
GU has a similar vibe to Uniqlo, but the clothes are cheaper and slightly lower quality. Mostly basics and some accessories. The clothes are still of decent quality though!
The inside is more cramped, like a typical NYC store, compared to the massive Uniqlo locations nearby. I didn't like how the fitting rooms and checkout lines were right next to each other, which caused confusion and congestion. Also, because of the space constraints, the product layouts and corresponding price labels were confusing. For example, there would be a couple style of pants in the same vicinity, but the location of the price label was unclear as to which style it assigned to.
All in all, while I do prefer Uniqlo, GU is still worth checking out, especially if you are in the market for more...
Read moreGU, the sister brand of Uniqlo, has had a small pop-up in SoHo for months now. After a brief closing during the summer, they have now reopened in a larger store that serves as their official US flagship store.
The selection is vast and contains styles for many different occasions. most of the upper floor is current styles, with a vast selection for men and women's clothing. The first floor also contains current collabs, such as Kirby during the time I visited. The bottom floor consists of things such as shoes, socks, and out of season clothing options.
The prices are much more affordable compared to Uniqlo, and overall the quality of the clothes is more to my liking at GU as well. The sizings do run a bit closer to Asian sizes, which could be troublesome if you are taller than average for things like pants or shoes, but overall the shirt selection is perfect for most people.
Overall a place I would highly recommend checking out for new styles as well as quality clothes for...
