Overpriced and Mismanaged Sloomoo'd and Bamboozled: A Slippery Experience Gone Sour
I recently visited the Sloomoo Institute in NYC with two 13-year-old girls, expecting a fun and engaging experience. Unfortunately, it turned out to be quite the opposite. Rude and disorganized employees coupled with missing stock and overbearing security completely ruined our experience.
The saddest part about all of this is we have been there in the past and it’s sad to see a place fall under bad management and go down hill especially when slimes are losing popularity.
I had purchased tickets in advance at $40 each, one for my daughter and the other for her friend. Upon arrival, I was informed that I needed a ticket as well and instead of charging me $40, because I was paying at the door it was $65. When I asked for the courtesy of receiving the $40 price, I was told no and then waiting 20 minutes for a manager who never showed up. So, I ended up buying the ticket online to avoid further delays.
Upon entering, our tickets were scanned, and we proceeded through the venue. The tickets included the opportunity to create custom slimes, the primary reason for our visit. However, we were disappointed to find that they were out of the most popular and best slimes.
At the end of the experience, we were given a single bag to hold our slimes. Since we made three slimes, I asked for an extra bag but was denied with the explanation of "one per family."
The reason I was required to buy a ticket was supposedly to supervise the two 13-year-olds, yet this became impossible when I was approached by the manager and two security guards. They blocked my path and accused me of not having paid to get in, forced me to provide proof. I said my ticket was scanned at the door and he required it to be rescanned. In the process, they also blocked me from supervising the girls, the entire reason that they said I needed to be there in the first place. At the point I lost track of them and missed the early experience and photo opp display. After finally confirming my purchase, the manager simply moved on without any apology or acknowledgment of the inconvenience caused. When I mentioned the missing slimes and the denied bag, he dismissed my concerns, stating, "oh well, we are busy.
I was completely embarrassed and mortified of being accused of stealing in front of a group of people. To make matters worse, when we were finally leaving the institute (proper name based on the employees) the manager denied that’s why security was with him. Gaslighting! later denied the incident ever happened.
Overall, the Sloomoo Institute was a huge disappointment. The disorganization, lack of communication, exorbitant price, missing inventory and poor customer service completely overshadowed the experience. I do not recommend this attraction and hope the management addresses these issues promptly.

Read moreThis place is over the top. Went with my 8 year old and she was in heaven. There are a few rules (no running, no throwing slime etc.....), but other than that, your kids can do everything and touch everything. There are time slots that they really keep so if you arrive a few minutes early, you'll have to wait (or come back). They call you when it's your time slot and they talk you through the rules and then they give the kids a fun slime name. As you're waiting tho, you can look and see how they make the slime - there's a small slime "kitchen" where someone "cooks up a batch" and it's so fun to watch. The employees here are all young, fun and so kind to the kids. As you pass through the museum, each new section has different slime. There is detailed information about each batch of slime on the wall. they even have glow in the dark slime! You get to touch and play with ALL the slime. In addition, there are different activities. With each ticket, you get to make your own bucket of slime. The first stop, you choose which slime you want (clear, cloud, butter etc...), then you move on to the scent (there are soooooo many!). You then choose your color and last, the ad ons (which are so fun and each bucket of slime gets 3 ad ons). From there, you go to the "mixing room" where you mix up your slime that you made. The room has about 6 cubbies with a table and some spot lights. The lighting in there is great so it's perfect for making video. The employees keep it very clean and are there if you need help wth anything. One of the last stations are squishy and slime that you can walk on - the kids have to wipe their feet and they get to experience that. This exhibit, tho a little pricey, is really a whole body slime experience. There is no time limit so you can spend as much time as you like here. Oh, there is also a slime dump station, where they dump a bucket of slime all over you. When you get tour ticket online, you have to book for this too (separately) - they only offer so many in an hour so they sell out pretty quick. It looks really fun but in the end, I'm glad we didnt do that. It's a great experience for this kids - very sensory and lots of noise (if you or your child are sensitive to that). One more thing, they change out the slime every day and there are multiple hand sanitizer wipe stations all...
Read moreSloomoo Institute is great for anyone who loves slime! The kids absolutely love it. Some adults do, too. They have a coat check at the beginning (included in your ticket, so no additional charge) in the beginning, which is awesome because you don't want to have your hands full when touching and being near slime. Also, don't wear your best clothes, just on case. There are various slime types in large bowls all throughout the experience that you can touch and play with. Towards the middle of the experience, you can choose a slime type, scent, color, and some type of beads (etc) and with those items, you create a slime of your own to keep. We didn't do the part of the experience where you get slimed... essentially, you take off your shoes and socks, put on a hooded rain poncho, and stand in the slime that was dumped over other people on the floor. You pay quite an additional amount for your ticket. (I think you $80 per person for this experience with the regular experience.) While standing there, you get slimed from above, a staff member is up above filling this thing with slime that they then tip over and it dumps on you. When the staff member gets tired of doing that, they just hang their arm over and dump pitchers of slime on you instead. The kids don't care, lol, but I thought it was bizarre. Even if you don't participate in this activity, you can see it happening as you move through the experience. In addition, everyone in your party doesn't have to do it just because one person wants too, so you can buy 5 regular admission tickets and one admission ticket with the slime experience and still all stay together throughout the experience. The last activity at the end, you can take off your shoes and socks and walk through slime barefoot. This is included in the regular admission tickets. We didn't participate in this because it just seems gross that people are walking through this barefoot. 🤮 I have included a picture of this, it's the one with the rainbow railings and the blue slime on the floor. Also, bring hand sanitizer with you because everyone is touching the same slime all day long with their hands. I thought for the price, the institute would be bigger, but it was fun. You can take a lot of photos on your own device. They do have a gift shop at the end where you can buy slime and other Sllomoo...
