I was a member of this gym for a few years, first at the Nostrand Avenue location, then at this newer branch once it opened. The staff has consistently been polite and friendly, always greeting members as they come and go, which I appreciated. The juice/smoothie bar is also a nice touch, offering a wide range of options, including snacks, at fair prices. However, there are several issues that took away from the overall experience. One of the biggest problems is the lack of enforced gym etiquette among members, especially the younger crowd. Dumbbells are often left scattered or put back in the wrong slots, which forces others to reshuffle equipment just to return theirs properly. During peak hours (roughly 5:30–8:00 PM), it gets particularly frustrating as groups of younger members tend to treat the gym like a hangout spot. Machines are often occupied for extended periods with minimal actual use, which can turn a 60–75 minute workout into a two-hour ordeal. All of the machines are Hammer Strength brand, which are decent, but for the $75/month membership fee (about $900/year, not including additional fees), I expected a higher standard in terms of equipment variety, space management, and member accountability. There are other gyms in the area with better setups and lower prices. The referral program is also disappointing. I’ve referred multiple people and only received $10 for each, far less than other gyms that offer a free month per referral. Considering each referred member is potentially worth nearly $1,000 annually to the gym, $10 feels like an insignificant return. Lastly, parking is a challenge. There’s no dedicated parking lot, and it’s not uncommon to spend up to 20 minutes circling the block trying to find a spot. I don’t usually write reviews. But this needed to be said: I recently moved in the area & was looking for a decent gym within walking distance. Planet fitness is just 2 blocks away but I opted for Harbor because it felt more like a real commercial gym. A year later I enjoyed going to this gym. Aside from the occasional defect machine it was more than enough. I’m not hard to please. Until I was aggressively confronted in a full locker room by a member of the staff claiming that I hadn’t paid my dues. I explained that it had to be a misunderstanding & to double check in their records because my balance was actually over, not under. But he insisted & made the situation very uncomfortable. He then went to check the records & found out I was in the right but never came back down to apologize or at the least confirm what I had told him. I went upstairs to speak to the lady at the front desk and was casually told, “oh yea sorry you were right we made a mistake.” It felt very insulting & unprofessional. The 9:45 Kings highway location used to be 24 hour fitness. This new gym is 5x more$$$ NO Pool, like the old one at 1/5 the price No steam room😢 sauna closed 😭 Overcrowded at night just like the cheaper gyms like planet fitness and blink. The equipment is state of the art however it lacks 2 very basic machines. The crowd is around the same age as planet fitness between 20-30 years old. The treadmill is the same as (my new gym, JCH, at $235 with pool, steam room and sauna) membership versus $85 a month, over $1,000 more yearly. However I did enjoy the protein shakes prepared on the premises. I prefer the 92nd Street site but with that said there is no elevator on 92nd. The staff was very professional, knowledgeable &pleasant.
