Went swimming here today, mixed reactions about the pools.
Pros: Huge Two pools, one of which is only 1-2 feet deep and therefore great for young children, the main one has a depth of 3-10 feet (so you can jump in at one end) Having gone on a weekday, I did not find it too crowded Changing areas, which are outdoors by the way, have individual stalls for privacy, something not seen at all NYC pools Easy access to subway and Highbridge to the Bronx The water tower provides an interesting backdrop The main pool has a zero-depth entrance ramp, great for those with mobility impairments and for slowly adjusting to the water temperature Long set of tiered concrete seats for spectating/relaxing Beats the heat
Cons: The paint on the floor of the pool was chipping off all over the place; in one spot you could clearly see the bare concrete beneath it. I hope it gets redone this off-season. There were far too few ladders, making it seem difficult to exit. I actually believe it does not comply with standards to this extent While it's possible to jump in, the deep end has a railing along most of it and temporary barriers are set up by most of the openings, so you have to squeeze by the lifeguard post and walk along the edge I was told that there used to be diving boards, but these were taken away There are two structures in the middle of the pool that a while ago were spray features, but have been decommissioned since people climbed on them? I don't see what difference it makes if the fountains are still there sitting dormant? Lifeguards were sure blowing their whistles frequently, and yes I did notice some horseplay, although I did...
Read moreThe gym in question is a perfect example of inconsistency and frustration. This establishment can be likened to a ghost town with its perpetual closure, leaving patrons stranded without any semblance of reliability. If you're looking for a place to work out, consider this gym as nothing more than a mirage.
They might as well hang a permanent "closed" sign on the door, for the frequency of its closure is unmatched. The gym's operational hours are a mere suggestion, as it seems the staff adheres to a schedule known only to them. Forget about planning your workout routine; it's a hit-or-miss situation here.
Don't bother checking their website or social media for updates, as the information provided is as reliable as a broken compass. You might catch wind of sporadic announcements about maintenance, repairs, or even staff shortages, but explanations remain vague and unreliable, leaving patrons in a perpetual state of confusion.
Membership fees? Oh, they're gladly accepted, with promises of access to state-of-the-art facilities. However, good luck trying to actually use them! Paying for a membership is akin to buying a ticket to a show that's never scheduled to start.
The sheer lack of accountability and consideration for their customers is astounding. It's as if they've mastered the art of disappointing without apology. Save yourself the frustration and opt for a gym that values its members and actually bothers to open its doors when it claims to. This establishment is a textbook example of how not...
Read moreI have been visiting this recreation center for over 20 years, The basketball program they offer for kids and teenagers is good to keep them busy in sport activities. The facility does have an indoor and outdoor pool. The indoor pool can be accessed all year around with a membership. The outdoor pool is open during summer season but I would stay away in summer afternoon when the facility get crowded full of unruly teenagers. Instead go early in the morning if you want to enjoy the pool without any disturbance, they also offer free swimming classes...
