I was looking for a " go-to spot" to get my mani/pedis. I decided to give this location a shot. My first experience was great. I was welcomed with smiles, and they explained how everything worked since I was a new client. I appreciated that they checked in with me periodically. I liked my technician; she was very sweet and kind, so I requested to have her for my next booking.
For my second appointment, I asked her to file the skin on my foot during my pedicure, and she obliged. I also inquired about a treatment to exfoliate or soften the skin on the pad of my big toe, as I tend to have extra skin there, likely due to how I walk. I felt a bit odd asking her to address this since I thought it might be noticeable. However, I want my appearance to be nice, and I expect careful attention to detail as well.
Next, we moved on to manicures. I have decent length nails but I needed two extensions . We removed one and kept the other, but I broke one and needed an extension. I prefer square nails, but my technician was filing quite aggressively to achieve that shape, which resulted in some nails being lopsided. I used my translator to show her what I wanted, and she acknowledged that she understood. I then had to wave down an attendant because it was clear my nail tech was not understanding what I was asking for after stating she did. The lady explained, agian she said she understood. Yet I have nails that are not shaped the way I asked, ai to However, my nails ended up getting shorter and shorter, and they still weren't square—they were rounded. I was getting annoyed because it seemed like she didn't understand, or perhaps she was embarrassed.I am paying for a service and want my nails to be how I want them. Am I wrong for wanting that?
When it was time to pay, I was asked about my service. I did my best to be kind while expressing my dissatisfaction. I told the attendant about my concerns, and she apologized, saying the owner would follow up. Almost a week has passed, and no one has contacted me. I've tried to let it go, but I'm disappointed in how the brand presents itself and the service I received.
If the two ladies beside me can zone out and enjoy their coffee and music without a care, I also want to feel relaxed and confident that I'm in good hands. One of my extensions is still rounded, and the other one has fallen off. I waited to be contacted since I was told I would be.
I regret not tipping; however, at that moment, I just wanted to leave and not look back. I felt uncomfortable and thought I was a disturbance to the other customers by speaking. I didn't want to...
Read moreI would give it more stars if I could.... I've get apres gel-x, gel and sns manis and spa pedis regularly over the past years , and honestly, this place is REALLY impressive.
Highly recommend if you're looking to treat yourself or just want a regular spot that has a more calm, relaxing experience than other nail salons. Eveyone is different, but for me, my nail appt is my self care day and I want it to be as relaxing as possible and it's safe to say today I felt pampered (without breaking the bank too!).
I got the $40 basic pedicure with a $5 foot file add-on and it was honestly better than most upgraded pedicures I've had (no exaggeration, it was way better than the fancy spots in Brooklyn and Manhattan). I noted they also used a professional footfile - not those cheese graters most salons use that make your calluses come back harder. This attention to detail shows they know what they're doing.
The SNS manicure was insanely good, too. Janeth was such a great nail tech,I can't recommend her enough! From looking around, it's clear all these nail techs are super skilled! I would definitely come back here for my next Apres gel-x set.
Lovely clean space sets the tone. Im always looking at protocol for sanitation, and I was really impressed! I'm immunocompromised, so for me, it was awesome that they still asked you to wear masks and they also santized surfaces. Most importantly, they used new tools for each customer. Also, a great vibe from staff - super polite, take your coat, offer water, and rembered my name when greeting me and saying bye. Some people dont care about that stuff, but it just adds to the experience for me, so i really appreciated it. I also want to note that my appointment was pushed by 15 minutes, but they text me and even called me to let me know 2 hours prior, which shows that theyre thoughtful and respectful of my time.
Safe to say, this spot will be my regular go-to. I love that I no longer have to...
Read moreThe fact that it has taken me so long to post this is a shame on me because, since my very first time in Tomy Rivero, the experience has been flawless.
Let me start with some facts. From the moment that you walk in the door, the staff has curated an experience for every customer coming in. The design of the space is elevated to anything beyond in Washington Height and even UWS. The technicians are extremely courteous and knowledgeable. The space is minimalistic in style but it’s a testament to the dedication of cleanliness and health.
Now, in speaking about my years of experiences coming to this space, Tomy Rivero is the epitome of the American Dream. The owner, Tomy, has taken the challenge of pursuing his passion of beauty in a refined setting within a community that, physically, is far from being glamorous.
However, there is a beauty to that. Amongst the chaos of Washington Heights, this neighborhood has been the most welcoming to all individuals of all cultures and backgrounds. With that, there are some that are looking for a more elevated experiences.
Tomy Rivero merges the diverse culture of the neighborhood with the downtown glam experience. As a Dominican owner, Tomy has prioritized to give back to this community by hiring staff and technicians that represent the neighborhood. And that is the beauty of being a small business owner. Being puertorrican myself, there is a sense of pride of spending my time and money giving it back to a group of Latinos.
In the pursuit of a refined experience, Tomy Rivero teaches the community that there is an opportunity for smart immigrants to put their own grain of sand and, if given the opportunity, they can really do...
