I'm not one to write reviews about places I go ,but seeing and experiencing what I did at this nursing home Merritt's it.. My mother was admitted for rehab after having surgery to recuperate. First night there I went looking for a nurse and the halls were empty,no one was around. It felt like a scene straight out of the godfather I tried to get information from the dr but was told there is no Dr available on weekends and I would have to talk to a nurse supervisor,I was told it would have to wait till monday. Unacceptable. If you have a family member there you need to advocate for them ask questions insist on having them answered. There is a total breakdown when it comes to communication between the family and medical team. The CnA's who take care of patients are overworked understaffed Need to handle pts 16 to 1 . At one point my mother was left in her own waste for over an hour. Her roommate went looking for help and no one came. As a result she She also developed a pressure sore nothing big thank god but it developed due to lack of movement, at discharge I noticed they said it was caused by excoriation, which is a skin picking disorder, I realized that they use this term so they dont get blamed for the sores. Cnas You have to get to know and then maybe they will be a bit more attentive. You need to be present constantly around so they know someone is looking out for there loved one. The only saving grace is the physical therapists who try their hardest to get pts back to a level ofindependance. .is it all nursing homes I dont know but I just needed to say my peace and let the people reading this know that this is an honest review not a bashing fest . So please make an informed decision. If needed would I come...
Read moreMy loved one has been at Jamaica Hospital Nursing Home for over a year. In that time, I have been very impressed with the level of professionalism from the staff members of the various departments. From the staff at the Lobby front desk to the nurses, social workers, dietitians, housekeeping staff, business office staff, activity department, administrative and physical therapy staff, I’ve experienced nothing but a fine group of employees who exhibit knowledge, kindness and competence toward their patients and their family members. The floor nurses keep me informed of any changes to the care plan or medications and communicate any medical conditions or concerns with the Medical team. The CNA’s go above and beyond to ensure the safety and comfort of those in their care. The facility is clean and the staff follow strict infections control policy and procedures. The yard is available for the patients to enjoy a bit of fresh air. The facility is connected to the hospital by an underground tunnel which is convenient and eliminates the need to arrange transport to outside hospitals. In addition, a nursing home staff member accompanies the patients to their appointments or procedures. I have been able to meet with team members with any concerns in a timely manner. It was a difficult decision to have to place my loved one in a nursing home facility, but I am comforted by the fact that she is...
Read moreThis has by far been the worst experience for my grandmother because of Dr. Doshi. He has failed to treat many of her conditions on a timely matter and has never reached out to the family until her condition became fatal. He thinks by calling the family once he has done his job and is “helping out”. Both times my grandmother has been in this facility he has neglected to treat her conditions in a timely and sensitive matter. After seeing my grandmother for four months and hearing the horrific stories, I was horrified to see my grandmothers physical condition and the neglect from this doctor. Dr. Doshi is never available when you call to speak to him! After speaking for weeks to the social worker for treatment for one of my grandmothers condition it takes Dr. Doshi an extra 3 weeks to treat for! This occurred again for another one of her conditions that became fatal! Please do not leave your family in the care of...
