We recently had the pleasure of taking a tour of Harlem with Jo, and we cannot recommend it enough! From the moment we started, he captivated us with his in-depth knowledge, passion, and storytelling. Harlem’s rich history, culture, and vibrant energy truly came alive during the tour.

We explored everything from the iconic Apollo Theater to the heart of the Harlem Renaissance, with fascinating stories about the community’s history, music, and contributions to civil rights. Jo is a Harlem native, which added so much authenticity to the experience. He also took us for lunch at one of his favorite local spots, where the food was absolutely delicious!

For every jazz music enthusiast and those interested in Afro-American culture, this guided tour is a must. Starting with a stroll around Harlem, visiting the key landmarks marked on Harlem's map felt like a journey through time. Standing in front of the Apollo Theater, Bill's Place, and Hotel Theresa wouldn't have been the same without Joe's insightful stories. Despite the rainy evening, wandering among Harlem's brick buildings was truly one of my best experiences in NYC.

The group knew the tour would culminate with a jazz concert, but I don't think anyone expected all of us to become part of the show. Joe led us to an incredible restaurant where talented musicians performed on the stage. Patrick's Place not only served us delicious food but also made us feel like part of the family as we sang along and danced together.

My father was born and raised in the Bronx, but this is my first time in NYC. I am very interested in my father's upbringing, and wanted to see his neighborhood, as well as important personal landmarks. Several people- including other local tour guides, told me this neighborhood was too dangerous and I should do something else with my time.

Joe met me at my hotel, and we took the subway together to the old neighborhood. Not only did Joe make me feel safe, he wss friendly, knowledgeable, and prepared. He brought pictures of special landmarks, like my father's apartment building (which no longer exists) and my father's favorite candy shop, which has been a bodega for decades. He was also able to tell me a great deal about the history of the...
