I shop at Katagiri 59th st from time to time. I live in a 5 blocks radius of the shop and within 5 years always have been satisfied of the products and of the quality of service. Everybody there has always been nice, helpful and polite. 1 star reflects only today’s unusual experience in the shop. Today after taking my son to school I stopped by Katagiri to buy a few things. I arrived about 5 minutes before 10:00 am and waited for the doors to open in time. At 10:00am nobody came to open the door. The young woman on the other side of the door (that I’ve never seen in that shop before) , although she had seen waiting me kept going around the shop doing this and that but didn’t come to open the door. It is only at 10:06 after that one of the sushi chef tired of seing me there waiting behind doors told her something that she came to open the door. She had to remove a pile of shopping basket and some kind of a black sign that where blocking the entrance and then unlocked and opened the door. As I was entering the shop I asked “You don’t open at 10:00?” And she said it is 10:00 now. It was 10:06. I picked 3 articles and really was in and out the shop in 1 or 2 minutes. When I went to pay for what I was buying I politely told the same young woman that a shop should open at the time posted on the door and that Japanese people are never late. I was replied a few things “It was opened you had just to push the door (and climb over a pile of shopping basket), you are not Japanese why do you even shop here, you are not Japanese why do you care?” I understand that there are sometime abusive and very demanding customers. I’m definitely not that kind. My questions are “is this the store policy? Are you employees now instructed to profile customers? If we’re not Japanese can’t we expect or deserve to be treated like any other customer? “ I would be curious to know what the shop management has to say about this. My receipt number is 191135 Date 9/9/21. Time...
Read moreI have been to this store many times and I honestly like the products and the fresh food they sale. But the customer service is seriously lacking and I question whether I will ever return. The store now charges 20 cents for a pack of soy sauce even if you order an item that would generally come with soy sauce! It's like charging for a package of ketchup with an order of fries. My bill at the store was almost $50, when I asked for soy sauce the cashier told me it was 20 cents. I found that appalling to be honest, because how could a store be so penny wise and pound foolish!? I explained I had just spent nearly $50, all the cashiers (2 of them) would say is "it's 20 cents for soy sauce, supply chain issues". I skipped the soy sauce out of principle and decided it was better not to return. So the store would rather lose $50 to save 20 cents, that's an unwise business practice in my opinion. Plus every other place still gives a pack of soy sauce as a...
