Painting Hangout — Attraction in New York

Recommend calling to confirm your resy the day of. We paid and got a confirmation email for a class on a Saturday, and showed up after traveling 40 min to get there, only to find out the teacher / owner was not there and not coming.

The employees were shocked / annoyed to see us there and were clearly angry as this had apparently happened before, according to them. They handled it quite unprofessionally and were not able to refund me on the spot. They gave me the phone number of the owner to call and insisted that I “complain to him about how unprofessional it was for him not to show up and demand a refund.”

I went back and forth with them for a while trying to understand why it was my responsibility to get in touch with a stranger from an unknown phone number in order to get my money back when it wasn’t my fault, but they said there was nothing they could or would do. Honestly I was worried I was getting scammed!

Finally got in touch with the owner after several hours, he said I could come back the next day for a class but will never be booking there again. I was refunded but he didn’t offer a free class or anything for my inconvenience.

There are better places to do paint and sips in...

It was a last minute birthday party (this all happened with less than 24 hours and as soon as I made the call, they were absolutely accommodating)! We basically brought an open bar, food, snacks, and a lot of birthday treats for our paint party! Our guests had a lot of personality to say the least and the Painting Hangout took the utmost care of us. V - you are really sweet and helpful, and just SUPER pleasant to work with. Thank you for tending to the needs of our guests. Antoinette, we loved your spice and determination to keep us all on track. I guess it helped that our party was full of sag's just like you lol! She's also an excellent artist and can help you customize any of the paintings that you choose for your group. I can go on and on about the flexibility, fun, creativity, and great staff. This is definitely the place to go if you want to create your own atmosphere and personalize your party, they will support you every...

Kept bugging us to write reviews. He stood over us watching until we wrote an online review. And then asked to see it when it was published. Also, I’m pretty sure he overcharged us. There was no official document listing the charge and online it was much less than the price he quoted to us. I guess we should’ve made sure. To top that, his painting skills were very poor. It felt like an elementary school class. We didn’t exactly believe that he was capable of painting the ones we saw hanging around the room but he told us he painted several of the very beautiful paintings that were hanging on the wall. But when we looked at the paintings he claimed to have painted, the signatures did not match his name nor were they even all the same names. HAHA never going back. All in all it was a funny time with my girls. We still enjoyed ourselves despite the scam...
