Where to begin? Unfortunately, my experience at the hotel fell far short of expectations. I reserved a non-accessible Deluxe Queen Room and confirmed in advance that a portable shower stool would be provided. (I am recovering from foot surgery, cannot walk, and use a knee scooter for mobility). Instead, I was assigned an accessible room with a wall-mounted chair in the shower (that was unclean and slimy). Unlike a wheelchair, a knee scooter cannot be taken into a shower and, with only one functional leg, I have to balance myself carefully -- making the setup especially unsafe. Also, roll-in showers lack water barriers, and I’ve learned from past experience that this leads to water flooding the bathroom floor—creating a serious slip hazard for someone in my condition. When I raised the issue with the front desk, I was told I had been "upgraded," a factually incorrect statement. In reality, my original reservation and the specific accessibility arrangements I had made were simply disregarded. It's possible the hotel never had a portable shower stool, despite assurances to the contrary. The bathroom also lacked basic amenities such as towel racks or hooks, making it impossible to hang towels -- a baffling omission in any hotel room, let alone one supposedly designed for accessibility. All that said, I want to sincerely thank the tall, young woman at the front desk who was kind, empathetic, and genuinely tried to help. Although no alternative room was available, she went out of her way to bring me extra pillows so I could elevate my injured leg, an act of thoughtfulness I deeply appreciated.
As for the room itself, it was dark, dated, and unclean:
There were makeup stains on the bathroom wall; The thermostat was broken and had been taped to the wall; The air conditioning did not work -- it blew only HOT air despite outdoor temperatures nearing 90°F.
We tried to get ventilation by opening the windows, only to find: (1) one window with a broken balance that slammed shut dangerously (thankfully, no injuries); and (2) another window that lacked a screen (exposing us to the elements and dead cockroaches visible immediately outside). Also, the sheets were rough and uncomfortable, and there was no suitable chair in the room for someone who cannot stand to dress—only a rickety desk chair with wheels without a locking mechanism.
Despite booking the breakfast and WiFi package, we were not given the WiFi name or password at check-in. When I asked the next day, the response was vague: “I think this is it—let me know if it doesn’t work.” Not exactly reassuring.
The cleaning staff also failed to leave breakfast menus in the room for door pickup. When we asked an older gentleman at the front desk for them, he acted as though the request was unreasonable, despite our prepaid package.
NO, I DO NOT RECOMMEND THE FITZPATRICK HOTEL ON...
Read moreI stayed here with a friend for 3 nights from October 12th. We originally had a suite booked via our travel agent, but somehow, it turned out that our suite had been changed to a room with a king size bed after we took one night off our stay, months before departure. This error was discovered by me at the travel agents a month before leaving and we could not get our suite back, but we did get two double beds at least.
We checked in close to midnight and the staff member was quick and efficient. We carried our own luggage to the room on the 16th floor. The room size was OK for NYC and it was clean. The shower was great and powerful and tastefully designed. However, the small things had a bit of a negative feel. There were no free sockets in the room. We had to charge phones and iPad in the bathroom and the plug kept coming out. Not very safe. They must not have realised that 2 people were staying, because they left only one bottle of water and one mint each time the room was turned over. The view was disheartening; we looked out to the side of two other buildings and a roof, but had asked for a street view.
Worst of all was the internet. Wi-Fi was free (with password) in reception, but was unusable! wifi in the room costs $14.95 per 24 hours using AT&T and cannot be used outside the room, which is a total joke. Over all, I found wifi in the city to be poor, no matter what device I used. Free Wi-Fi in Chicago, Las Vegas and indeed, back home in Dublin is far better.
I could not fault the staff though. They were so friendly and would be the only reason I would return to this hotel. That said, the Wi-Fi issue would be the very reason I would not come back, because it is important that I can keep in touch and get my emails on time. I plan to return to Manhattan next year with my wife, but I will likely stay somewhere else, with reliable,...
Read moreI wasn’t planning on making this review originally. I stayed at this hotel because I was going to a hair class nearby. The room I stayed in was nice. There was a small refrigerator, but I was surprised to not see a microwave. The bathroom is ill placed and very small, but it did its job. Upon arriving to our room we were missing a remote control for the second TV.
My biggest ICK with this hotel was an issue that occurred over complimentary hot chocolate. I stayed at this location with my mother and husband for four nights. On only ONE day did I find the complementary hot chocolate. It was delicious. In the morning when I was checking out on the fifth day, I inquired about more complementary hot chocolate. This proceeded to become a huge debate amongst one of the workers, and what seem to be management. The worker that I inquired about the hot chocolate to called someone on the phone to let them know to bring hot chocolate because three guests were waiting. Well, when this lady from the phone came out, she was so intense about this whole complementary hot chocolate, and how it’s not always available and how they sell hot chocolate, and she just went off on the worker!!! It was very awkward! Me and my husband felt so sad that we put the worker through this weird interaction. My husband and I heard the manager badger the worker about this complementary hot chocolate for about 10 minutes! The worker was defending themselves while the manager was just going off about how the complementary hot chocolate isn’t always there and how they sell hot chocolate we could buy, etc. etc. Overall pretty unprofessional. I think it would’ve been much easier to just give us some hot chocolate just to please your guests. Just so you know, the complementary hot chocolate cup is smaller than a teacup. To think that a hotel/management could be so stingy on...
