KYC WAX — Local services in New York

I desperately needed a Brazilian wax and wanted to go to a Black-owned salon. Now I’ve had a lot of waxes in my life, but I’m always a little nervous beforehand, especially with a new person. I called Katrina and got a same day appointment and as soon as she picked up the phone, her energy and demeanor was so sweet and calming so that already put me at ease before even meeting her.

The salon is in Brooklyn in a studio that has a lot of different smaller suites on the 2nd floor. Now, onto the important stuff… Her space was clean and I could see that she cleaned and sanitized before and after the waxing. Now, the waxing…let’s be honest, Brazilian waxing is never pleasant, per se, unless you’re into that type of thing, but she was so gentle, so quick, and so thorough that it was over before I knew it, and part of the reason it was even somewhat painful is because I waited months to get any type of hair removal.

So long story short, I’m so glad I took a chance and went to KYC, because she is really good at what she does.

I’ve only ever experienced getting a wax once in my life and it was for professional reasons. As an actor, I had to get my chest waxed and I remember it being slightly painful, yet I didn’t mind the end result. When I came to KYC Wax, I decided to get waxed for fun for a vacation. I decided to get my legs, lower back, and chest waxed and it was worth it, for sure! Katrina put me at ease in her immaculate Brooklyn studio. She played music and kept the conversation going to distract me from the pain I thought I’d feel. But, to be honest, I only winced from pain maybe 7 times in during the duration of my wax. Katrina knows what she’s doing to mitigate pain, but also keeps you comfortable. I spent more time laughing than wincing. And by the end, my skin was so damn smooth, I felt like a pre-teen again. Also, her technique for removing hair is so swift, I could tell she’s been doing this for a while. It feels great to be in the hands of a truly skilled professional!
