Owner was extremely, unpleasant and impatient and rude
While I was in a nearly empty store, he was rushing to pick and buy one the boots without doing any prior research
He became engaged and offended every time I took out my phone to try and match the product online to view its quality and durability. It's literally a basic consumers right.
Whenever I tried to ask about the make and model of a shoe so that I can confirm their features and good reviews and he continued to berate me
He finally persuaded me to choose and try on a pair of shoes. The display model was too large so I asked him if he could get a smaller size. After this he told me I must buy the shoe since he spent so much effort getting it out of the backroom...
I get the new shoes and walk around for a minute with them. I told him that they were a bit tight so I wouldn't be buying that pair yet and that I was going to look at another. I also take a picture of the boots tag (that includes size and serial number that I can use for reference for research) and this finally set him off.
He breaks down telling me that I never planned to buy anything in the first place .and that I just came in here to mess with him? I was definitely offended as I was indeed planning on buying at least a water bladder, a dump pouch, and maybe a pair of shoes if they fit well. He only let me try on a single pair of boots before he broke down about this also...
After his rant, I told him that now I definitely wasn't going to buy anything anymore. I did not feel like shopping at this store anymore so I left. On the way out the guy yells at me to wait and that he would give the boots to me for $200 instead.
I obviously did not take the offer from this suspicious and rude shop owner. who doesn't even allow you to do research on the products you want to buy.
I suspect almost all goods in this store are overpriced and in poor quality, which is the only reason I can think of for DISALLOWING customers to do research themselves on their products.
DO NOT forget it's a consumers right to be able to do research before a purchase. He is clearly scared of people checking his products online.
Do not go to this surplus store unless you want to be rushed around far before the store's closing time. Or unless you want to deal with the verbal abuse from the owner when trying to choose...
Read moreNever again. Stuff there is ok, but the staff (most likely owners) either don't know what they sell or more likely try to rip you off. There is no price on merchandise. However, I checked the price on the net before. There was $114. When asked about the price in the shop they said $150. After I told them that it was $114 the other guy said it was actually $129 and that $114 was for a different model (I've been wearing the very same type of jacket for 15 years and know exactly what it looks like on the net). Obviously, the jacket (CWU - 45P alpha bomber jacket) was really at $114 (original price was $129, but on the web it's crossed and replaced by $114 for quite some time). I insisted on the price, unfortunately didn't have phone on me so couldn't show them online. But you could clearly see on their faces they were trying to rip you off. The same with sunglasses afterwards....never again. Been to some other army shops in Manhattan and it was much better anywhere else...
Read moreThis place rocks. It's got a nostalgic flair for anyone who's a military gear affectionado or in need of basic ripstop pants, backpacks you name it. They have an amazing assortment of shoes, clothes, bags, and shemags among so much more. ( read that again as I rhymed) I felt like John Rambo.... as i entered, naturally on a secret mission to save the world... or perhaps buy a T-shirt for my Veteran Dad who instead could be on said mission. Hmmm before this message self destructs just know its quaint but stacked like Pamela Anderson 1999-2001. The owner, Eli had a great personality and made me feel comfortable instead of uneasy like at the other military themed store on 42nd between 8th n 9th. Your mission, if you so choose is to...
