Sour meat 𼊠I am frankly surprised no one reported the place for food poisoning â ď¸ yet. This place needs an inspection ASAP. Be careful with discolored beef, anything ground, and pork chops that are pre seasoned, because those are so bad that they need to drown it in seasoning. Their fish is bad too. Get ready to get parasites unless you overcook EVERYTHING. Even if you do, the bacteria already created toxins which cannot be cooked out of the meat. If you see salmon at a $8 per lb price, know that it's already way past it's expiration date.
Edit: Had to add this after I've seen some other reviews. đ
The Dominican store manager also gave me attitude after I came back to warn them about spoiled meat. Mind you, I didn't even ask for a refund, just told them to get better. THEY DO RE-LABEL EXPIRED MEATS, I PROMISE YOU THAT. I'll take some photos next time to prove it.
The tall, slim dude manager with glasses definitely does pace around the store sometimes, making you feel watched, it's not just with certain constituency, he does it to everyone. At other times, he just yawns around looking at his phone (closing time). I don't mind, but it's a bad look. They probably do get some shady shoppers though, the city is getting worse and worse with that issue.
I like the staff at the checkout, they at least try to be nice.
Deli area food should be avoided. If their "fresh" meats are sour, you can only imagine the quality of their deli food, cause alot of it is made with expired produce. I ran a supermarket in Rockaway beach. I get it that every supermarket uses stuff that's soon to be spoiled if not sold, but this place takes it on a whole other level..
Buy your meats EXCLUSIVELY across the street at Koha Brothers. Fresh cuts always. Make sure you tip your butchers! If you need pork đ, buy it at the polish spot next door. Get your fruits and veggies at the Turkish 24h supermarket one block down. Only canned food is safe at Met Fresh, but you can buy it cheaper at other spots, like food town on McDonald Ave, three minute walk.
If you're closer to Coney Island Ave, maybe try the new Spanish supermarket, I'm yet to check it out.
If you're looking for an absolute one stop shop with unparalleled variety, check out the Russian supermarket on Ditmars and 4th, Spanish AND Eastern Euro produce galore.
All this said, I'd still want them to succeed, but only if they get better, so far it's been a downward spiral. Take in less meats, but keep it fresh and get deliveries more often. I'm sure their fresh product wastage is unsustainable, but they already know this.
At this point, I only get keffir here when it's on sale, some canned food, maybe a chocolate, and pasta when it's on sale. They have a unique opportunity to become a one stop shop in the neighborhood, but not at this level..
Edit: Response to manager Thank you for addressing this. I've stopped by since, and see that you are making constant changes to the layout to improve the experience. As far as inspection of meat produce goes, I trust my experience, and numerous comments from other customers above all. I understand that you stock up with a great amount of options and run a risk of spoilage, and I believe you probably improved on order management now that you have a better feel of product turnover. I'll stop by to see if your other prices have become more competitive in the neighborhood, but at the moment I am hooked on the new 24 hr supermarket on Coney...
Read moreAhh set this up on google and planned to be first review to this new market in Kensington. I appreciate the free hotdog and popcorn on their opening. Thanks
Itâs new supermarket and still get to their stuff together. So far I only got an Oreo from them but probably will be back again since in a a few block away. My neighbor loves the premade food and more variety. Itâs taken a little business away from local but I am surprised they donât work with meat shop nearby. I wouldnât come here for meat tbh. The fruit selection is okie but there is two veggie market a block away. This spot is good for their shelves stable items.
Overall thanks for replacing the old rite aid and finally a not so empty corner shop. There are so much they can do better if they would consult the people who actually live here. Open a cafe inside or add some fish market. A little annoy on what they added to take from other shops instead of adding to wha the community needs.
Add some bench for the people to sit is the least...
Read moreManager had attitude with rancid meat return.
My father-in-law had an incident today where he tried to return ground turkey that was purchased on Sunday, December 29th. After asking for assistance from two employees, a manager was located and told him that they typically have a 24-hour policy on returning items but he would allow it this time. No apology was made to him for the bad meat just an attitude about the return. I personally opened the package and noticed it right away. It smelled terrible.
We want to try and be supportive of new stores in our neighborhood but how we are treated and acknowledgement of mistakes is important. My wife and I have shopped at your store several times since you have opened. Based on how my father-in-law was treated today, it will be a while before we return, if at all. Staff are typically courteous and responsive which is why this is a two star rating and not one.
It was a $20 package of bad ground turkey but may cost your store thousands from...
