I was a camper there when they first opened. It was only recently someone asked me where I went to camp. I responded "Mill basin day camp over there in Brooklyn". When I pulled up the site I saw some of the reviews. I was really surprised its not 5 stars. I understand parents will have there personal opinion about pricing and other issues with people and new COVID-19 rules. I just want to clear this up with people that gave bad reviews. I went from being a camper to being a worker there. I'll never forget what Jack told us as employees. "these kids look up to you as if they were your big brother" and yes the counselors are young but Edith as well as Nicole and other directors are constantly walking around checking in on us and your kids. Jack has a set of rules he goes by for your kids. When he does orientation no matter what group your kid is in. No Yelling, Make sure they get plenty of water throughout the day, do bathroom runs 4-5 times a day as well as small group bathroom runs. If they don't have food we will find them something to eat. If we see the parents don't give the kid something to eat. You will get a phone call stating this is the 4th time this week with no food. Today because of that camp I have stories and coworkers that I work with at NYU Langone- Brooklyn- its such a small world because I met two nurses I work with that were lifeguards. They also went to camp and were lifeguards. I work for nursing Informatics I'm in the ED and OR depts. have a dual degree as well as a masters. Yes my parents made me work hard absolutely. But its because I went to camp with all my friends and we all grown together. This is no sales pitch. I haven't seen Jack in about 10 yrs. I know COVID took a toll on so much To mill basin day camp employees and kids enjoy the summer. When you sign up to this camp its like your son or daughter has...
Read moreDespite the pricey cost of this camp, i signed my son up for camp here because his friends go there and they had many activities that he liked. Now i regret it, because i've learned that the counselors are completely immature and inhumane... On my son's birthday, we bought a HUGE cake for his group, and when he brought it to camp, they said they did'nt have a refrigirator to put it in, so they never celebrated.. The cake was left on the bus, and no one even sang Happy Birthday to him, even though he had a huge pin on him that said "Birthday Boy". He also brought a disk to camp so that they could watch it on the bus, but it was thrown around the bus by campers & counselors, and they never even gave it back to him to bring home. He came home crying, and he didnt even want to go to camp the next day. I emailed the camp director about this, and he had the nerve to say "you're taking this too far". The camp is sexist, they have baking for girls and not boys, and sports for boys and not girls.. DEFINITELY not sending him back to mill...
Read moreMy kids hated this camp. They told me horror stories and what happened to them was inexcusable. First of all, the counselors were high school students who cursed in front of campers. My kids are 10 and 6. When asked to stop saying bad words by my kids, they just laughed. When I escalated the issue to assist director they said they will speak with counselors, but nothing changed. Also my son was hit by other campers and ended up in nurse’s office a couple of times, again hinting at inadequacy of counselors to watch the campers. My son also one day came home in someone else’s shoes!? He’s only 6 years old. Again I asked the administrators to look for his sneakers, but they didn’t find them. My daughter was also bullied by other campers. She has multiple food allergies and a girl asked her to eat a candy or she will break her water bottle. My daughter refused, so that girl smashed her bottle. There are no words to describe the anger I feel for the carelessness this camp staff has showed...
