Movement Harlem — Local services in New York

I appreciate route setters and staff. All are friendly and helpful, with great attitudes and positive dispositions. When kids come around, I can tell they're pushed to their limits, but they watch and interact with the little runts in a caring manner. As an adult with no kids, they do get a little annoying - but it's heartwarming to watch how they torture staff. The gym area is decently equipped and safe from sed children. I do notice that one or more of the cardio equipment is out of order. Seems to be neglected. The cleanliness of this facility compared to LIC and Brooklyn, however, is slightly lacking. Nothing horrible, but the mats could use a strong vaccum. Otherwise, it is a clean facility. Restrooms are clean. The Male showers could use little better cleaning. Overall, this is the go-to when trying to improve grades of bouldering. Find its routes easier than LIC...

The gym itself is nice, routes are somewhat uniformly distributed and there are several problems for each level.

The issue I had was with couple of staff being borderline rude. The most recent one I asked the front desk if they had climbing tape and he said yeah it's in the back you could grab one, and once I said no I just need a piece he was oh sorry we don't have communal tape, ( the retail price is 2.5 dollars for a roll). I had half a mind of buying a roll and donating it to the gym since it seems they cannot afford to give community tape.

I then also asked about couple of classes to which the person behind desk again gave very short one word answers without even bothering to look at me.

I visited the Cliff yesterday with my three children, Prior to me visiting I called and gave them the ages of my children and the man on the phone assured me that it was okay to bring them. Upon my arrival of the elevator I could sense it was like what you doing here. I had done my waiver and paid the $74.00 for my two children with no problem. I felt like the staff did not want us there and kept on watching us the entire time. Every time I looked up they were looking it was very uneasy for me and I decided to leave. I wanted my children to spend the day there and just climb and sit and watch so that they could experience something new. I’ll never go back because I felt so very unwanted...
