This location on West 125th is not more than a block away from the subway lines (A,C,B,D). Very convenient and definitely worth its weight in gold whenever starving for any kind of art supplies at any given moment. I popped into the store just recently to get an antique painting reframed. Luckily they had their 50% Off Sale, which incredibly still has that “sales price” shock after all is said and done. Believe me, it’s quite the dilemma figuring out what the cost runs per frame and labor. Now of course there’s only one framer doing all the work— but this was another first.
So the storyline goes like this — I won this turn-of-the century painting on eBay. And held back hanging it on the wall until I could figure out [where?] it was going to go. Finally after a long week, decided to place it over the doorframe into my kitchen. Well silly me used this adhesive hook and stuck it on the wall then placing the wire into place atop a ladder got it set. It sort of drooped a bit but to me from the hallway no one could notice. And left it there. A few days later I’m alone in my front room watching a movie and suddenly the sound of something crashed somewhere —I thought “Oh no, not another ghost! Ugh!” So I turned into the hall and there’s the painting laying upside down with its glass covering shattered into a million pieces all over the rug and everywhere on the wooden floor!
Unbelievable. It was painstaking cleaning up every single piece of glass! Even later finding myself still stepping on these hidden smaller shards buried in bare feet day’s later… I felt so stupid … like why??
In any event, I finally mustered enough energy to come into this Blick store to get it repaired. Now the painting’s value was tripled by just the new additional framework. Paying a handsome sum on top of what was its original purchased price point. I Nevertheless love antiques. But, however lovely, framing is still a cash cow.
Blick is such a fantastic store aside all else and what really makes them awesome?? It’s their staffing. Truly marvelous. And truly intellectually wonderfully friendly people. It’s so terrific it’s like being in art school classes all...
Read moreI went on a self-care art store trip today to pick up some supplies for oil painting. I visited this location before and it remains one of my favorites!
The employees are incredibly helpful and friendly. Every employee I've interacted with have mixed media knowledge, being able to answer my questions about acrylics, watercolors, gouache, oils, etc. And recommend the best choices suited for my needs.
For today, I bought oil painting supplies. I asked two different employees about a) water-mixable oils supplies, and b) recommendations for a good gesso brush. Unfortunately, I didn't catch their names, but both women were extremely accommodating to my inquiries! I hope they had a nice day ✨
Checking out was quick and efficient. The cashier packaged my brushes and paint very neatly and safely, greatly appreciated. Makes for a wonderful haul photo 💜
I loved the wide range of items available for browsing. I know this isn't the biggest Blick, but it still had everything, for beginners to advanced and master's levels. The atmosphete of the location is also very nice and clean.
One thing I thought would make my experience even better: not all items were marked with a price tag, only the item's name, which made shopping became kind of a guessing game. I'm kind of a shy shopper, so I don't always ask the employees for help, and I would have liked for prices to be present so I didn't have to bother them 😅
Overall, I had a great experience at this Blick location. Helpful and friendly employees. A wide range of items. Shop is...
Read moreVisited the Blick on 125th Street and Dr. Martin Luther King Dr. (It's right next to Apollo Theatre). It's an awesome location...not busy or full of art students or tourists. They have everything you need as far as art.supplies and framing is concerned. Their employees are helpful and friendly. And it's easier to get to than the one's downtown on 23rd or 13th or even Bond Street. If you live uptown, this is the best location for you. And the prices are great also. If I'm not mistaken they will price match but Blick usually has it lower than other stores such as Michael's and a much better selection of everything....
