Terrible!!! I will never spend another dime in this store again. During this pandemic, I went into this store with my reusable shopping bag like I always do because you have to pay for bags and used my bag as always like my cart. This particular time, I went in the store, I started to put the items that I was going to purchase in my bag(clearly a shopping bag and not a purse) and one of the women says to me. Excuse me what are you doing. I was oblivious to what she was talking about, so I asked her what happened. She said, I see you putting things in your bag. So I told her that I always do that when I come into the store and give the bag to the woman at the register. She then tried to accuse me of stealing. So, I once again explained that I am not a thief and that I do nothing want to touch the carts because of the corona. I was not making an attempt to leave the store with out paying and I had been in the store twice in the last two weeks. So I went up to the front to tell the security and another woman working there the problem. I had over $1000 in my pocket and showed them. By this time, I am infuriated, because I am not a thief and I work too hard to ever be accused of being one. On top of this. I had a $5 coupon from the last time I made a purchase from that store from the previous week. I put the stuff on the counter and did not purchase anything. I will never shop at this store again. It is a real shame that you can not even shop without having to go through something like this. I could completely understand if she saw me putting stuff in my bag and saw me trying to walk out of the store with these items and then said something. Then yes, you could accuse me of stealing. I really think that the culture really makes a difference. You can’t work in a neighborhood and assume that everyone in that neighborhood is trying to steal from you. They will never get another dime from me!!! If I can go to the supermarket and every other place and use my reusable bag to shop and not get accused of stealing then i should not be at this place. The (African) woman didn’t even ask me if I needed help. Every black person is not dishonest! Today is November 18th, 2020. I spent $70 in this location on Nov 13th and another $53 on November 9th. This location will never see another dime of my money!!! They can care less about the community, only the dollars that it gets from the...
Read moreI hate to leave negative reviews for a business but this time, I MUST. I've been a customer at Apollo Beauty Land for 4 years now. At first I enjoyed going there and buying cosmetics and braiding hair etc. But something has changed over the years.
All of the reviews regarding POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE is... TRUE. The last time I went to buy some hair (which was last week), the cashier had the worst attitude imaginable. Wouldn't even say hello or address me. She didn't even say, "Next". I went up to her and put my items on the counter and she just started grabbing at the products and tallying them. Then, "Want a bag" she says. No smile. No acknowledgement. Nothing. Just plain RUDE. I don't understand why she chose that job if she hates people or kindness or greeting people that much. She should quit and find a job she enjoys.
Her behavior was so inexcusable that I had to tell her about herself after I made my purchase and even then, she was making excuses as to why she couldn't even say hello or be cordial. 🙄
The security guy working at the door also doesn't greet you when you come in....AT ALL. And YES. They definitely follow you in the store looking to see if you are going to steal. That is 100% true. This has become one of the most uninviting and unwelcoming stores and I honestly do not want to spend any more of my money at Apollo Beauty Land.
The staff is terrible, unfriendly and cold. Not all of them, but enough of them for me to take time out of my life and write a review.
They do have a MAJOR selection of hair and hair products etc. If you care about a store appreciating you as a customer? THIS STORE IS NOT IT. If you just care about giving money to an establishment that will be rude to you if you have spent your hard earned money? THIS STORE WILL DO THAT.
I wrote this review because I have my own business....in customer service. If I EVER behaved the way some of the employees of this store insist on behaving, I would be out of business in a heartbeat. With that said, there are so MANY other Beauty supply stores in that area and elsewhere in NYC.
I'm going to take my hard earned...
Read moreTypical African Hair Braiding experience. Khady Lopez braided my hair into a long ponytail. Regular quality. Well, a little less. Please see the pictures. The screenshot is of what I asked for. The other pictures is what I got. I bought 5 bags of hair. She used three and I forgot to get the unused two bags and she failed to give them to me. She had my number but didn't bother to contact me about the hair I left. (about $12 worth of hair) she had two kids helping her with the ends. One of which was her lazy daughter that made every excuse not to finish another braid. And when she did, she braided just as painfully hard as her mother. One of those situations where you have to hold the braid to your scalp as they are braiding because they are recklessly pulling at your braid. The daughter was about 10 years old. The other girl (maybe a cousin) was around 12 I imagine. She was a soft braider. We tipped her $10 and she was estatic. The ponytail cost me $80. I only have a tip to the cousin. Braids were not parted nicely and a bit uneven. Extremely tight to the point where I could not bend my neck all the way in any direction. I imagine red spots and irritation in the coming days.
Khady Lopez kept sneezing and coughing and would continue braiding my hair without washing or sanitizing her hands.
My head hurts and it wouldn't be such a big deal if the...
