I spent two years at New York English Academy, and honestly, it became so much more than just a place to study. When I first joined, I had a few personal goals I wanted to achieve while living in NYC. Not only did my English skills get so much better over time, but I also ended up making amazing friendships with people from all over the world which I am still very close to.
The teachers are very nice people, they’re patient and super friendly. Nicholas, the academic manager is fabulous; I loved to chat with him during breaks. He always took time to help out whenever I had questions about classes or anything else. He was kind enough to help me with some forms that had nothing to do with the school. The DSO was also a huge help, especially when it came to anything related to my student visa — which can definitely get a bit stressful if you don’t have the right guidance!
Looking back, I’m really grateful I chose NYEA, there aren't many schools in the city which has weekend classes and it might feel overwhelming having classes from 9-6, nevertheless it was absolutely worth it. It gave me the flexibility and support I needed to work on my goals while enjoying life in my favorite city in the world. Whether it was a field trip or grabbing coffee with classmates after class, it all became part of a super special...
Read moreCommunication with this school is very difficult. It is easier and more didactic to fill out the visa application forms at the embassy. You look like you are asking for a scholarship from an NGO.
When I started my transfer to this school I had to wait more than 20 days for them to answer my application and I had to go in person and talk to a teacher I found in the hallways to get my application answered.
There is only one email admissions@newyork-english.edu and in this email they answer more than 5 people, when they answer the email you never know who you are talking to, for me this is not professional at all and in general they make the process very complex. I have been to 3 different schools in the US and this school is the worst in administrative process. There is no intranet to make applications and the forms are long and repetitive, additionally the administrative staff is uncooperative, at least the one I had to answer.
As for the classes the professors are excellent, Nicholas the academic manager is a very nice person, he is always willing to help. My teacher Kaylee is one of my best English teachers, you never get bored with her.
I give them three stars because communication with the student should be a priority, they should make the processes easier and above all improve the...
Read moreHonestly I had a bad experience with this school. When I started a school exchange I had terrible service and bad information about the course, they didn't give me all the necessary information before making me pay the registration fee, so I lost my registration money. They informed me about a "period grace" but I checked it with my lawyer and also with the DSO in my current school and both of them said that it would create a gap in my academic record, which would put my F-1 status in jeopardy. (the period grace is the 90 days you have to leave the country when you finish your studies in the country) They also don't give a clear or correct information about values, dates or any questions you have, you need to ask a question several times until you have your answer. They just want more students to take your money, but they don't help you at all. So, I do not recommend this...
