We stayed here a few months ago, (April 2022) for a weekend to do all the "touristy" things in NYC. We had a standard 2 queen bed room for 2 adults and a child. When booking the room, I knew it would be small/tight room which was good because we only planned to be there to sleep.

Location is great as we were able to walk to basically everything we planned to see with about a 20 minute walk in any direction. However, the location is also problematic if you want to sleep after walking all day long. Our room was an exterior room with window facing 7th Ave so Friday and Saturday evenings were LOUD. There was also a Phish concert across the street at MSG and apparently construction on the street from 11pm-3AM Friday night. None of us slept at all because of this. It felt like the walls and window were paper thin and the loud window AC unit helped drown some of it off but it's set to shut off at a certain temperature, so this going on and off made the noise volume fluctuate, room to spike and drop in temperature too, and we weren't successful in changing this setting so it would stay on continuously.

Cleanliness was an issue. The room was surface level clean at first sight but with more attention you could see areas that hadn't been dusted or cleaned in years. These were out of easy reach areas and nooks and crannies of areas like the the porcelain towel holder in bathroom, vents of window ac unit, etc. Bed linens, towels, tubs, main things were clean. The beds were average. Nothing to rave about not complain. The pillows were more flat for my preference. I had asked front desk for two extra to help us with it. They eagerly we're willing to help but these never arrived. We asked as we were going out for the day and hadn't return til very late in the evening. So at that time we didn't follow up. I think it was an easy oversight, a lot of hospitality crews are running short and just getting back into the swing of things at this time as things are just reopening from covid.

The pictures on the website of rooms were misleading. They depicted very bright, new rooms and the reality was a much more dreary and aged version. This was a disappointment aesthetically but since the purpose of our stay was to be tourists, we were barely in our room that this was not as big of a factor then if we had been staying a week or doing something that would have had us in the hotel more.

The staff was lovely, courteous, friendly, and the best part of the stay. I think the hotel has a lot of potential to live up to it's 4 star rating but it's not, in my opinion from my stay, a 4 star hotel yet. It can use deep cleaning, updating, maybe sound proofing the windows (lol), but also this stay was at a time where things were just opening back up after 2 years of the pandemic, do I feel some grace...

Really disappointed with this hotel. I wish I read deeper into the reviews—there are past reviews that bring up the concerns of cleanliness, where Stewart Hotel representatives gave an apology, but it’s very clear they’ve done nothing about it.

I booked the hotel online and the photos are extremely misleading. In terms of hygiene I didn’t even last in the room for more than 10 minutes. Every room was covered in decrepit, yellow stains. There were crusty white stains on the couch and carpet. Considering everyone is trying to do their best to move forward after a year of the pandemic, this room was not up to code, nor hygienic standards by any means. Generally, the room looked outdated and things were “patched over” instead of being updated properly. We had a queen bed but it looked more like a full-sized bed. All in all, everything was so bad to the point I had to take pictures to document it.

I also noticed there were many people trying to get a room past 12am. I was under the impression with the cadence of what I saw, this hotel is a place you take someone to end the night with after going to the club. If that’s what you want to do, cool, but if you want a different type of vibe, this is definitely not the place to go.

Customer service told me they couldn’t switch us to another room because the hotel was full. They were kind, but seemed to brush us off because this wasn’t the first time they’ve dealt with our type of complaint. They pretty much told us to deal with it for the night. I went back upstairs, looked at the room and couldn’t fathom sleeping in something that I couldn’t trust was sanitary, and I luckily ended up finding another hotel.

Stewart representatives told me since I booked this online, my refund would have to go through the online agency. I called the agency to get the refund and they mentioned that Stewart Hotel didn’t process my cancellation at all. They then tried to call customer service and nobody answered. Both sides of this are very shady. I had to take it up to my bank when it could’ve simply gone through the main source in the first place.

It’s unfortunate we had to go through this after a long day of flying and kick off our trip on that note. I strongly encourage people reading this to book somewhere else. It’s not worth it at all and it’s very clear health and safety, and cleanliness for customers is their priority as this isn’t the first public complaint they’ve received.

The best part about the trip, aside from NYC, was finding a new hotel to sleep in a clean bed and feel a...

If you're looking for cheap (by NYC standards) and conveniently located this is it, but The Stewart Hotel is not the kind of place you want to spend most of your day if you can help it. I booked it on a friend's recommendation (she stayed just over a year prior) and it's clear we had 2 very different experiences—I would not recommend this place to anyone.

The first thing I noticed about the room was a stale smell, leading me to think it probably just hadn't been aired out or used in some time due to the pandemic. The AC was turned on, I suppose to remedy this, but the machine was loud, dated, and had an old cloth wedged into the bottom of it (I'm guessing the machine was prone to leaking).

The bathroom was of questionable cleanliness. The toilet was definitely clean, but the shelves and towel racks were coated in dust (as were many structures in the room) and the floor had black streaks that somehow made their way into the shower as well. Speaking of which, the shower in particular was home to several small flying insects and a stranger's hair tightly wound around the drain. I've been in college dormitory bathrooms that were cleaner, and there is no way I would use the shower in this hotel without a pair of flip flops protecting my feet. Thankfully the sink was very deep, because it was partially clogged and drained slowly.

The furniture is need of repair or replacing: the glass coffee table tips with little weight, as it is not secured; the stained nightstands and desk would have benefit from being wiped down, and were lumpy from water damage; the cabinet door housing the fridge sat at an angle and needed extra pressure applied to actually close it; the bed skirt was stained but the rest of the bedding seemed clean. The lighting over the desk, at least in my room, was insufficient if you're working during later hours, so I would suggest investing in desk lamps.

Street noise carries itself very well—sirens and loud vehicles will seem as though they're in the room with you. I don't believe the windows have any degree of noise reduction, so if you need peace and quiet avoid staying on weekends, or you may be woken up by late-night party sounds.

Lastly, my keys ended up disabled twice over a 3-night stay.

At one point, maybe this really was a 4-Star hotel, but my experience was...
