True Story: upon arrival I was immediately greeted by warm, smiling faces. They helped me to a chair, placed a smock on me and offered me a choice of coffee, water, relaxing glass of wine, (the wine was very relaxing). I felt like a queen,... royalty! I was impressed as I watched them all work together as a team to make sure I was comfortable and we discussed options for a cut and highlights. Markel had wonderful ideas and was extremely knowledgeable in what we could and shouldn't do for my hair. So, we get to the point where they are about to wash the product/chemical out of my hair, at the sink, where they find the water is not working. They investigate and without warning, find out the city has shut off the water to the entire area and nearby, as there was some kind of accident with an underground pipe in the street. They immediately reassured me they will get the product out asap, and ran out of the salon to get gallons of clean water to complete my hair services. Within minutes they were notifying their other clients who had upcoming appointments of the situation and got to work on finishing my hair. I was beyond satisfied with the highlights and cut I received, and if I wasn't from another state, I'd come back for all my hair needs. If I'm ever in town again, I surely will! Markel, Roger and Fatima are the hardest working, kind, knowledgeable people I've come across in a salon in forever. Very classy, top notch experience at this salon. 100% recommend if you want the Royal treatment and to feel like queen for a day, just because you need a cut and color/highlights. This is my favorite salon I have been to in my life! Not only do master stylists Roger and Markel and their colleagues know everything there is to know about hair, but also they treat every customer like a VIP. When you walk in, you are welcomed with a smile, coat taken and put up, and offered a beverage as you settle in. Your stylist will ask you what brings you into the salon that day, adding follow-up questions to uncover your hopes and ideas for your hair and together create a plan for how to care for and treat your hair at the salon that day and beyond. I have never been “upsold” or encouraged to purchase services I didn’t need/want or would harm my hair; to the contrary, I’ve been gently redirected from plans to act on previous upsells! From the luxurious shampooing to the artful cuts, you will be in amazing hands from end to end, with some fun tunes playing in the background to boot! I have been coming ever since I moved back to NYC a few years ago—including my first (delightful!) foray into highlights just before getting engaged!—and I always leave feeling more relaxed, put together, and upbeat. This salon is the kind of place that makes NYC what it is—peak global talent making it all the way to this city, putting down roots, and starting a thriving business with unmatched skills, endless elbow grease, and a love for their clients, most of whom become repeat customers. I was recommended this salon and Markel from a friend of mine. I loved her cut and reached out asking who did it. AR is quite far from me, but I figured it was worth a shot.

In all honesty, I am so happy I decided to go. I had a terrible experience previously where a salon burnt off 2 feet of my hair. Markel was my first haircut after it finally grew back out- so I was extremely nervous. He made me SO comfortable and I felt very trusting just in a few minutes of talking to him. I find that a lot of hair stylists don’t really listen to you when you describe what you’re looking for and end up doing what they want anyway. However, Markel is not like that at all. He recommended what he thought I would need to take off of the length for the sake of the health of my hair, and then let me decide if I was okay with that or not. For someone with irrational anxiety, this put me at such ease- showing me the cuts he was about to make and explaining what he’s doing to achieve the look I was asking for.

My fiancé and I both go to Markel now and have no issues driving 30 mins for a cut. We are always so happy with the results and love our time at the salon.
