Pros easy to get appt clean office, friendly front office staff good in a pinch if you had a skin reaction or allergy and need prescription med or cream
Iāve been to the office 3x, all w Dr Karp. Initial visit was for a skin allergy while pregnant and she listened to my concerns and gave me her email to reach out with follow ups; I did, she responded, I really appreciated it.
My next two experiences werenāt great. I came in for an annual skin check, felt extremely rushed. I mentioned that I recently turned 40 and interested in starting retinol; I was told to go to any pharmacy and get any retinol, no detail on how to phase in etc. I asked a couple more qās and was given a print out with her socials and told to look at affiliated links.
Thinking Iād have more time to discuss skincare if I scheduled a consult v skincare check, I set up an appt to discuss Botox (also first time trying this). Note the consult was $275 out of pocket, unless I also got Botox and then it would be applied towards the cost. During appt I started to ask qās as well to try to find out other treatments available etc, again very rushed, a bit dismissive saying I donāt need anything (Iām 40 and think itās appropriate to ask about skincare maintenance?). Entire appt (consult + injection) was maybe 10 min. I got a little Botox and a week later still have some bruising. I also had bumps on my forehead right after and thank goodness was working from home that day, definitely would not have gone back to office. After speaking with others, experienced injectors are good at avoiding blood vessels to minimize bruising. Rather than go back, Iāll be trying a new derm who has a more consultative approach, understands mature skin, and can provide guidance on how to keep my skin looking good.
TLDR: good in a pinch. For annual skin check, general skincare guidance, and cosmetic work,...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was very upset with my visit. I had a very good experience the first time I came a year and a half ago. And I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt but reading the other reviews - it seems like this isn't the first time.
The doctor was not in the office because of an "emergency." Of course, you cannot help emergencies. However, why wasn't I notified before going into the examination room? I should have been given a call the morning of OR notified as soon as I came in the office. NOT while I'm in the examination room - this means they can charge my insurance. They are fortunate that my insurance paid because if I had to pay co-pay or out of pocket - I WOULD BE EVEN MORE ANGRY. Because I'm paying to see the doctor but I get a PA? No - this is not okay.
The PA came and yes she was wonderful. She apologized for the doctor not being in. But, this really isn't acceptable. As I said, I came to see a doctor!
Afterwards, I told the receptionist that if I made an appointment I want to make sure the doctor is in. She said something along the lines of "I can't tell you if another emergency will happen." I had to ask "Can I call and make sure she is in before coming in?" She seemed offended and said "You can."
I should have said "YOU should call me to let me know if the doctor is in!"
Not happy at all. As I have read other reviews - it seems like this happens often. If this is the policy, this practice isn't going to last. I'm being honest. This is unprofessional behavior. I hope the doctor wasn't lying and if she was not in the office - patients should have been notified. Appointments should have been cancelled.
Receptionist and the nurse was not professional at all. No apologies from the receptionist for not calling. The nurse look like she wanted to get off work as soon as possible. GET...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe office visit is a ridiculous 260$ and lasted barely two minutes. Mind you,1 minute and half out of the two minutes was me pushing hard and awkwardly to ask questions - and I was rushed out in the end as if I am some nuisance taking up too much of their time. The doctor rushed in, didnāt even sit down, in fact, he didnāt even look at the infected skin area itself (!!) before telling me he will prescribe me some drug and I will come see him again in two weeks (another 260$ for 30 seconds of mumbling?) I find it unbelievable, tried to show the affected skin, but the doctor didnāt show any interest and still didnāt cast a glance at it. I asked the doctor what kind of skin problem I actually have, aka Iād like a diagnosis at a dermatology office, DUH, and he told me it doesnāt matter, he will only help me stop the itch. Thank you, I can scratch it myself - I am paying all this money to find out the root cause so I can cure or avoid it in future. Turns out he gave me steroids, which has big withdrawal and side effects and I threw them away. So instead of helping me know what exactly caused my condition (auto immune? Environmental allergy? Food allergy?) he tried to get me hooked on some steroids - scratching the surface for good without tackling the actual issue behind, with big withdrawal side effects. Reminds me of doctors prescribing opioids for any instance of pain without bothering to find out what actually causes it on a case to case basis and solves the root cause instead. I find this practice extremely incompetent,...
