Blondes Beware! I went in to Venelle as a first time customer recently to correct my blonde after quarantine where roots had grown out and had orangey tones. I've been highlighting my hair for 15 years and I've never had an experience this bad. First I was told the only way to "fix" the orange would be a double process costing over 350$! I went rounds with the stylist trying to just get a partial highlight but he insisted that if I wasn't willing to spend a small fortune that he could only correct the color with a toner... The toner did not correct my roots at all and instead made my white blonde hair more orange to match the roots! Opposite of a fix and I was still charged 150$. I also had to basically force the stylist to even dry it - he tried to send me home after an hour with half-wet hair! Even after finally getting him to finish a simple blow dry, I left looking far worse than I did coming in. I was polite but definitely made it clear that I was very disappointed and that he had actually made my hair worse. He didn't apologize or attempt to make it right, simply disappeared into the back while I walked myself to the front to pay the full fee, leaving the salon with frizzy, half air-dried hair that wasn't even blown out for full cost. He claimed the color would look better in different lighting........ spoiler - it did not. Very, very bad experience. For any blondes, avoid this salon unless you're willing to pay an exorbitant amount of money for the bare minimum... simply getting your hair dried is apparently a luxury service here... super disappointing and no accountability....
Read moreBased on other online reviews, I decided to switch to Venelle for my waxing treatment (I get the full monty, if you catch my drift). I'd been going to a well-known place in the West Village, but had been disappointed at feeling like I was part of a factory assembly line so decided to look elsewhere. I'm so glad I switched to Venelle. Michelle is far and beyond the best waxing specialist I have ever seen. She is was incredibly meticulous, and despite the expected amount of pain involved, I actually thought it was one of the most painless waxings I've ever had. I highly endorse her! The waxing rooms are spacious and well-lit (she even uses the type of lights typically seen at the dentist). A really relaxing "spa" soundtrack was playing, which I personally enjoyed. A couple things to note: they don't accept tips on credit cards (this is actually quite common in NYC salons), but do accept them for the services. Be clear to the staff (and yourself) about what you want done - the different waxing "areas" are outlined on their website, so if you want extra areas done (stomach, for example) you should expect to pay a little more. In my opinion, it's worth...
