I came here for a couple of months for pelvic-focused physical therapy. At intake, I requested an appointment with Dr. Priyanka Dave, but over the phone and in person I was redirected toward a different male provider, possibly the owner. He seemed surprised that I insisted on my original request, and I had to restate my preference a couple of times before being scheduled with Dr. Dave.
Once I was able to see her, I found Dr. Dave warm, kind, and very communicative about touch, which made sessions comfortable.
One thing that bothered me a bit was that she often decided on the next exercise during the appointment itself. While I could tell this was tailored to how I was moving that day, I sometimes wished there had been more advance planning or a clearer long-term treatment plan.
Other stuff: the rooms are private and they had a spare set of exercise clothes if you weren’t dressed for therapy. I'm leaving a review now since I've received dozens of emails requesting a review which I quite frankly find annoying. I still receive them on a regular basis, even though I’ve tried to unsubscribe. To me, that seems like a weirdly strong business emphasis on reputation management alongside care...
Overall, a truly mixed experience. I valued the therapist I worked with and the privacy of the place compared to another PT clinic I tried, but the intake process and follow-up marketing didn't leave me with a very good impression.
Note: written under a different name to protect my online privacy, especially with health-related stuff. Unfortunately, this means I cannot follow up with any responses from...
Read moreAmazing, unlike any other Physical Therapy.
I had issues with feeling sports ready after my second ACL reconstruction. I've seen several physical therapists that all had the same cookie cutter approach. They look at my knee and simply think about the strengthening my quads, hamstrings, and glutes. They ignored the pain I was feeling in my back and hip.
The people at Physis listened to my pain, asked questions about my ACL injuries and any other previous injuries. They noticed several imbalances that could be contributing to my back and hip pain. Over the last three months, I've been working with Sunny on fixing these subconcious patterns I have with sitting, standing, and walking which further contribute to my pain. He focuses on the pain I have that day while still holding in the higher level goal of getting me sports ready. My hip and back pain have completely resolved and I'm back to playing limited 2v2 basketball, while we continue working on my stability.
The facility is pretty big for Manhattan. They have multiple private rooms and a good space for exercises that require floor space. The equipment, patient rooms, and restrooms are pretty clean. The staff is always friendly and their hours are flexible. It's one of the few places I could find for appointments before 9 am.
Overall, I highly recommend Physis to anyone recovering from a sports injury, major surgery, or experiencing a type of chronic pain. The wholistic approach for spotting imbalances and compensation mechanisms that I have is what has made...
Read moreDr. Sunny Pandya has helped me tremendously over the past 4+ years. My story--early 2015 I started experiencing significant pain and clicking in my hips. I was 28 years old, a former athlete, and found myself limping around with an unfortunate diagnosis of FAI (Femoral Acetabular Impingement) with bilateral torn labrums. After seeing 3 hip specialists and failing 4 different PT practices, surgery was the likely next step. One doctor at HSS literally said, "what did you do to deserve hips like these?!?...when would you like to schedule surgery?"
I decided to give one final attempt at PT and tried a session with Sunny. One session turned into two, two into three, and after about 10 sessions I knew that I would not be going under the knife anytime soon! Sunny's techniques were DIFFERENT from those I had experienced anywhere else--"DNS" (Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization) and "Vojta" proved to be extremely helpful for me! Through 1-on-1 sessions maneuvering my body in different positions, applying body weight, increasing range of motion, and correcting misalignment issues I just kept improving. Gradually the force of compression in my hips started to diminish, my movement patterns became better, and I was able to get my active lifestyle back.
Whether you are struggling with an acute injury, trying to relieve chronic pain, or considering surgery you owe it to yourself to try a few sessions with Dr. Pandya. You will not be...
