Sanctuary NYC Retreats — Local services in New York

Usually books up quite a few months in advance, but I absolutely love this place. Very relaxed atmosphere and Mario, the manager, has always been very gracious and kind. I'm looking forward to the yoga classes.

Sanctuary is really the epitome of what the model stay should be for NYC. Rooms are quaint, but very nice by NYC standards and full of amenities usually only found in AirBNBs. They allow their guests the option to work within the local community (weekend food outreach program). If all hotels/retreats were this comfortable and welcoming, AirBNB would be out of business.

Also, very fair price. That's very important. Sanctuary is not gouging customers and hiking prices. The times I've stayed their prices have been reasonable and affordable for a long stay.

The room was clean and huge, it was really great. The kitchen was very useful and well equipped. It was just missing a cutting board and a peeler in my opinion (since we cooked mostly vegetables) and it would be even more perfect. The hotel was very well situated, close to the subway and a lot of restaurants or places to eat. Even some places to do groceries shopping if you plan to cook. Service was perfect, any time we had a small issue or request it was replied to very quickly and perfectly. I definitely recommend this place! Just be careful and know that the place is vegetarian if you plan to cook there :)

The air conditioning (heating at our time of the year) was indeed very noisy, but nothing that earplugs can't stop. Just think to bring earplugs! I don't think I would have slept well...

We were excited about our family visit to NYC and Sanctuary NYC Retreats nearly ruined it. It's a very dated property and old, loud appliances and dated bathrooms. The entire property needs a complete refurbishment. Aircon in our room was so loud that we could not sleep at all for the first night. We then complained and were provided with a fan and ear plugs by the property (laughable - I know!). Instead of acknowledging that there is an issue, the manager of the property kept on defending that everything is fine with Aircon. If you read other reviews of this property, every other review complains of aircon noise (I know I should have read then before the trip not after).
