We went at Xmas just to see New York at Xmas and loved it. We stayed in the Wellington Hotel that turned out to be next door to the Christmas Cottage. It is reputed to be the oldest Xmas shop in New York, it is certainly an Aladdin's cave of decorations, we went in a few times. We went in a lot of Xmas shops whilst in New York and this was certainly one of the best. Maybe a little pricey, but in our view had the best selection for quite a small shop.
